Calipers Painted

I don't know where you're pulling your facts from but you're wrong.
Max temp is around the figure you quote. Cure time is 24 hours or 30 minutes at 120°C.

The back of the paint can, actually .

Needs to bake at 250°C for an hour to chemically cure.

Perfect !! Good as the day i did them . :)

Dead easy too , wheels off , wire brush , paint on , go and have a drive to get some heat into them , job done.

Howard, are they still looking good?

The BMW has red painted calipers  :wallbash:

I want to paint them silver, could I paint on top or do I have to strip them down?

Yep , mine still look as good as the day i did them !

Hammerite ( paint on ) really is the shizzle ! , like treacle.

Wire brush them over quickly and then away you go. I found the best way to do it was 'stippling' rather than brushing on like you paint a door frame.

Did mine in gunmetal grey.

Go for a short drive after to get some warmth through them and it'll go off quicker.

Halfords do special paint for high heat environments. ie brakes

The issue I have is that someone has already painted them red

Koolvin, i painted the C36 ones Satin black and they still looked good a year later when i sold it! i used the engine paint from halfords.

as howard says, wire brush them and paint over them, should be ok.

Spraying them will need multiple coats.

Get the paint on stuff and a half inch brush , no need for high temp paint.

My 430 brakes get used pretty hard at times , and there's been no issues. It's not like a race car going from 0 to 200 mph and then 0 again 500 times in a race ....

I am glad I spotted this thread. I had it in mind for a while but not in any rush as the amg wheels on the E do not make it very visible.

However I just had new disks and pads fitted all around on the 55 and the calipers do stand out now against the brand new disks.

What colour though? My car is azurite blue, so I can easily go for the silver like howards and give an original look, then black would not look bad either but what about a shade of gold?

My opinion is fancy calipers can look good in gold, or even red. But run of the mill ones are best in black, or maybe gunmetal or even silver.

You re probably right. I might test a small area with a dark gold shade (closer to bronze) and see how the colour looks. Very likely to just do them in gunmetal.

Mine aren't silver , they are gunmetal grey ( i felt silver would show the dirt too much ) ...

I toyed with the idea of doing them gold ( a la Brembo ) , but the gold hammerite is pretty lairy , not subtle like the Brembo gold.

If you can get the 'dull gold' i think they would look cool.

I am researching all the different brake caliper paint manufacturers and will try to purchase the best shade of gold. I will give the darkest shade a go.

I may just paint mine black, i'll see if I can give the old red painted ones a good key.

I want to do mine, which black hammerite to use on calipers ? smooth, hammered or satin

I used hammered because the calipers aren't smooth , they are pretty rough cast.

Did mine in matching Quartz Blue (nearly....A poor attempt by local auto paint supplier) in basecoat, covers like crazy ,no brushmarks etc. time will tell re. durability so quick... wheel off, wire brush ,dust off &painted in under 10 mins each!!
IMHO looks fantastic,tidy but subtle,
Cheers .....Paul

What about the colour Brembo uses with their new GTR products they talked about some time ago..?
