Cam belt or chain????....that is the question..

Do you think the non-intefering engines they use in america are better?
At least if the chain goes it is not terminal
We could try the honda dealers, see what they say. any other cars use chains .

Didn't even know that, do you mean in Mercs, or US car engines in general?

Indeed. I assume there are sound engineering reasons for using an interference design, but you would expect them so ensure that the chain and the guides are replaced or at least inspected timely.
 
In amerian car engines.though mostly general motors. i think it makes them lazier mostly for pushrod engines so they can freewheel
 
So basically, its got a chain and the servicing period for this item is very sketchy!!.....my old Nissan 2.0 litre turbo also had a chain and Nissan GB recommended having it changed every 250k miles...which is pretty damn good...
