Can a scratch on a ceramic coat be repaired?

Might be other products on top of the "ceramic".
Exactly what I was thinking.

A good quality wax or sealant can do a good job beading for a while.

Also without looking at the paint with the correct lighting, you can't tell the condition.

In the photo you can't tell the paint condition at all.

Probably depends on how good the coating is in the first place, but yeah aftercare plays an important part.
My own car is to get an inspection every year as its got warranty for 7 years - gtechniq crystal serum ultra.
But a ceramic coating isn't all that hydrophobic, it need something on top of it to help with beading, in my case gtechniq exo V4 was applied on top of the coating.

The company that applied mine said all I need to do is apply gtechniq citrus snow foam every 6 months really, or if I notice the beading dropping off.

Yeah it's all about the aftercare.

Weather plays an important part too, where I am in Scotland it gets below 0 for most of winter so the roads are heavily salted.

If you live near or park near trees, sap sticks to the coating, if you live/park near factories or railways again various contaminants including iron fallout.

Regular safe washing will maintain the coating performance.

I don't get the whole ceramic craze.

1) Pay a fortune to have my car coated,
2) Buy their approved products for maintenance
3) Have my car inspected annually....etc

It is bad enough getting a service and MOT sorted.

Sounds like a con. Guaranteed for 7 years as long as you buy all my (maintenance) products and bring your car to me every year......we all know that those demands will never be met...

Not exactly.
I've not had my car back for its free inspection, they said if your happy then we're happy.
Do I have to buy all their stuff?
Well it doesn't seem to be that way.
Does me car look fantastically glossy nearly a year later - absolutely it does.
It's also incredibly easy to keep the car clean

I was generalising and not referring to your situation in particular....if you're happy good.

You're not a fan of ceramic coatings, yeah I get that.
I was sceptical before, but having had it done, and more importantly seeing the benefits first hand, I'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to polish & wax their car anymore.
I just wash and dry the car - sometimes I don't even dry it, I just rinse it filtered watered, wither way the car looks great with its glossy paintwork on show.

If you're someone who likes to spend a lot of time polishing/waxing etc, then its definitely not for you.

You're generalising comments are about warranty and having to use very specific maintenance products are very wrong indeed.

Not all companies are the same.

I ran a detailing company for years.

1) Cost £250 to get the car coated.
2) I didn't sell you other products, I just gave advice on how to care for the coating.
3) No annual inspections.

Not all companies are the same, the 7 year thing is a bit extreme, any car used as a daily driver and washed normally, a coating will not last 7 years, IMO.

Interesting how people call themselves Detailers now, years ago they were car valeters.
So many people I’ve noticed now got a van full of expensive products claim to be trained by blah blah blah basically someone you’ve never heard of.
Still people are free to spend their money on what they like.
Naively, I’ve paid a dealer for one of these so called ‘special coatings’ in the past, it was an absolute crock of s***t. Put on by the car washer round the back not prepping the car at all, and getting charged a fortune for it with a limp wristed guarantee.
I suppose people get sucked into this stuff when buying a new car, like buying al theses must have insurances, like paint chip, alloy wheel and tyre puncture repairs at 2-3 hundred quid a pop.

You've suffered from a poor dealer and a poor worker, can't lump everyone in the same category.

I paid great attention to every job, still do with my own cars.

I always thought a sanitation engineer was a binman!

Some years ago I did some work as a nightclub doorman, called myself an "eviction technician" :D:D

Don't know who did your coating -- have a read of this and see if you stand by your comments.....

Yep, I stand by my comments.
Coating applied by an accredited detailer.
His comments to me when explaining the warranty was that he didn't need to see the car every 12 months, if I was happy all was still well, he'd simply update their records.

You could be right Rory but the seller was no detailer and the car had not been detailed elsewhere prior to my viewing.. I guess that time will tell but in the meantime I'm trying not to become OCD about one small light scratch. By the way, I put my smart charger on today and it works fine.

For me, the ceramic coating is a bonus. I would have still bought the car and been happy to polish, wax etc.etc. 2 wheels off yesterday, cleaned and sealed. The other 2 saved for the next wet/cold day.

No that wasn't my point - you said that my comments about warranties & having to take a car back for inspection were wrong. If anyone used Gtechniq (and I'm sure there are other brand leaders that are the same) they do have to take their car in for an annual inspection so I'm not wrong.

As I previously stated if you are happy with ceramic - good for you!

Advice sought on a cost effective solution to deal with this area of scratches that have recently appeared on my drivers side door. The car has a Gyeon Quartz Q2 DuraFlex coating and the advice to date is that the whole side of the car would need to be cleaned of coating and recoated after machine polish of the damaged area.

I am reaching the conclusion that I won't have any car ceramic coated in the future!!!!
