2010 c63 amg
My rear tyres are close the limit and I need to change them. The car has chewed up 2 sets of yokohama(stock) in 13k miles. I am looking for an alternative with idelly better grip and better life then the 6-7k the yokos give. Has anyone used an alternative and if so how did u rate them and how many miles did they last . Should I considor winter tyres?

Any help appreciated :)

Tyres have a Treadwear Number - check and compare before purchase.

Falken have a higher number than Michelin PS3, and almost the same grip and feel on the rear.

Mind you, I think a C63 is supposed to eat rears.

And the S210 was very well behaved on summer tyres last year on the little bit of snow and ice we had compared to the Volvo245, but no RWD is ideal on ice.
Winter tyres are for "below 7°C" but mean winter (whatever that is here) temperature in England varies from 2°C to 6°C, and it was 12.5°C today. We don't have climate, we have weather. Winter tyres are not for snow, no studs, but will cope better than summer tyres in cold and wet.

What is the Treadwear Number on typical winter tyres?

What is the treadwear number? I've not heard this before.

We aren't in winter yet...and of course we have climate, ours is fairly constant in it's year round averages and is maritime.

you have done well to get 13k out of two sets. we are lucky to get 5k out of the rears.

It is basically a number which represents how hard the rubber is. I'm sure it is more scientific than that but that is it in a general sense.

A treadwear of say 400 is quite high and will last a while, but normally grip is not as good on a tyre with say 240.

Ive used two sets (rears) of contis 3's - 6700miles contis 5's 7300miles
ive now switched to Kumhos half the price and similar wear profile
and ive got my winters to put back on from last year

so in answer to your questions

yes
good

Hi,

I need one new rear tyres for my C63 AMG, the size is 255 30 19.
I am going to get two new tyres though for the rear. One of them is just under 3mm id say but one is very near the legal limit and needs changing asap.

I asked my local dealer how much and they said £520. Thats all in including fitting.
I then went on the internet and looked at the website i normally get tyes off and i could get two for £444 delivered. I would then have to fit them.

I asked Mercedes if they would price match and they said yes, but then refused as the price i said was too low.
They also refused to let me supply my own tyres and let them fit them as they didnt know where the tyres came from?

Ive worked it out around £70 Mercedes are charging for fitting the tyres.
My question is do i have to / (worth £70) get them changed at a Mercedes Dealer or can i go to any garage?

I have had my last three changes done by a local Ford garage which only used to charge £20 for changing the fronts on my Fiesta. Im not sure if they would only fit tyres for Ford's?

Of course you can go where you like!

Being as you are on 19" rims then you could get Michelin Supersports for around £500 fitted.

Probably a better tyre than you've been offered so far!

No way do you need to go to MB dealer. Just had all done on my C63. Ordered online from Oponeo as they were cheapest and then £40 to fit at my local tyre fitters. They will all fit your tyres for you and most will do a deal for cash.
