It wasn't suggested that he have a 16" wheel on permanently..
It was a temporary solution so he could get his 18" wheel repaired but still be mobile..
Much as a Space saver is temporary till you get the puncture fixed..
Im beginning to wish I hadn't said anything !

I already had the spare wheel thing sorted, thanks.
I just wanted to know if I was going to b*gger up the wheel with my hamfistedness and a big hammer.
A valid point..
But my E class does have a space saver..
I haven't tried it to see if it actually fits.. I would hope it does, otherwise why have it in the boot ?
My Road wheels are 17"
I fell for this one with my CLK, running staggered 18" set up, spare is a space saver and when I tried it guess what it didn't fit Straight down the scrappy to buy a 16" steelie as a get you home spare, you just have to be careful you get the rolling diameters as close as you can
Thanks Ian..
I do hope I am not going to be plagued by "do gooders" on here..
I can see me packing this forum in as well !
Life is too short and I really cant be bothered any more !

If a 16" wheel was fitted when all the others were 18" that would be an mot fail. Mot fail = unroadworthy.

Make sure you never use a space saver then.
Gordon Tarling (I think) mentioned Pristine Wheels (I think) in Milton Keynes - he felt they did a good job that included heat treatment - he didn't say much more though.
There's not a lot more to say - took my 'old' 211 Sport twin-spokes to Pristine for refurbishment, after dropping them off, they called me to say that two of them were 'buckled'. They said they could straighten them for (I think) £40 each and that included the correct heat treatment after straightening. Picked them up a few days later and refitted them - the car did seem to run a bit smoother after that. Best to speak to a refurbisher to ask about repairing the damage before a long trip to get there.
I wouldn't try to hammer it back to be honest. You risk cracking the wheel (it will take a lot of force on a cold wheel) and very unlikely to get round enough to eliminate vibration.
Most good wheel repair shops can fix the dent, although some believe it does weaken the wheel.
