Can someone explain how a BBK is cheaper than a set of OEM discs

Paying import duty and VAT on top of the purchase price puts it in perspective...

It's amazing how cheap you can sell something for when it's made from monkey metal and undergoes minimal testing.

I've witnessed more than one set of cheap BBK out of Taiwan set fire to itself. Are brakes an area where you want to be taking risks?

I would never fit these anyway, was just wandering how they can sell them at that price but i suppose the above really does say it all.

Supply and Demand...

As long ad people think like you do, the manufacturer will have to keep lowering their prices until people start buying them... :D

How soon do you need discs?

As mentioned on another thread, I'm talking with a very good UK manufacturer about them making some. I just need to get my car to their workshop for a day so they can take all the required measurements.

Once done, they will produce at a fair amount less than Mercedes.

I don't need them right now but i'v got a service due in about 3.5k (which for me is a good few months unless i do some long trips) in which i presume they will say they need changed

so have just been looking around at other avail options so when the time comes i'm prepared

The name phatboybrakes doesn't inspire confidence, however Dan Newton posts on numerous car forums with group deals and no negative comments about the quality or performance as far as I can tell? eBay feedback is also 100%.

I believe the calipers are made in the same factory as most of the bbk manufactures use .
I have not seen any negative feed back on any car forums . Only off set would be the import duty and the vat on a purchase of £1200 +£250 insurance and postage the import duty would be £65 , Vat £303 so total cost would be around £1818 , not quite the bargain it first looked !

I did the front brakes on my E63 this year. All in it cost me around 1600 and I fitted them myself. There appear to be aftermarket options in the US, but not in the UK, (yet), so you're stuck with OEM. I guess the very small volume doesn't make them attractive to copy.
Its easy to check if they need replacing, if you can feel a pronounced lip, then that's a clue, but the second indicator is that the drill holes at the end of some of the lines, (as they spiral out from the centre), don't penetrate very far, and if they are close to disappearing altogether, they are at the limit for wear
