Can anyone recommend good audio shop somewhere in London that offers good quality and more importantly, reasonable price? Am thinking of upgrading my speakers but not competent of DIY.

Which side of London are you? I have to say that over the years I have seen some pretty bloody awful work done in the name of professional car audio installation... Sextons at Reading had a very good guy running it last time I went there, and he was proud of the work that they were doing. He is about the only chap I would even dream of letting near a Merc but sextons are not that cheap.

These guys are good value but I don't think they have a fitting service...

Halfords offer a fitting service on their stuff but I would want them to do the job under my sad pedantic gaze, so I would choose fitting at home / work and keep the guy plied with tea and be a pain in the **** and sit on his shoulder ;-)

As for speakers... I would recomend Focals they are awsome for clarity :bannana:

I've made a couple of successful purchases from:

http://caraudiosecurity.com/

After my first order I realised that they were based in Tottenham Court Road, so I just went there and collected my second order.

Not sure now, but then (1 year ago) they were the cheapest people I could find on the internet for the kit I wanted.

I am based in Marylbone area but willing to travel if there is good audio shops. I have bad experience before where the audio shop did such a bootch job that it ruined my car (though it was not merc). I don't think car audio security does installation, do they ? Any help is appreciate. I take note of focals and interested to listen to it.

Car Audio Security or HiwayHifi

I've recently bought an MP3 head unit from CAS and they were the cheapest on the net.

When I went to the shop I told them I'd been looking at their website what the head unit I wanted was, and they sold it to me for their internet price (£20 less).

Have a look at their website, and they also have a forum for questions.
(in Nickgee's posting)

If you are going to go their shop, it is very close to Tottenham Court Road station (on TCR), but their shop is at the back of another, so remember the address.

They do fitting, and sometimes do this at the weekend (inc Sundays) so you can avoid the congestion charge. :)

Or you could try HiwayHifi, who are also reasonably cheap, and are located close to Edgware Road Station, so just outside the CC zone. :)
I think they also do fitting.

These guys would only do me a partial discount on the shop price after I told them the price I had seen it on their website for, but got it there and then, and still cheaper than off the shelf.

I've only ever bought kit from these shops, so I can't verify the quality of the fitting work, or the cost, but would expect them to be reasonably decent.

Good luck and I'm sure they would be happy to talk to you on the phone about your requirements.

Cheers

There used to be a large Car audio shop at Kingscross where the greys inn road meets the euston road by the old mole jazz shop but I never used them but they looked very good (open workshops etc)

At the end of the day the worst part about having someone else fit stuff in your car is, once the panels are back you have no way of knowing what they have done to fit it :( If you are worried about it, I would go the Halfords home fit route or a company like them coz at least you can keep your eye on what they are up to and as long as the company is big enough you can beat over the head with trading standards if they mess it up...

I do mine myself as its not worth the trouble if they damage the car like when i had my other c class fit they broke the speaker grill and i had problems get thiem to replace it etc.

Also when i have the windows tinted on it by autoshade same problems

The only please i trust is orpington car stereo in caterham as they are top blokes

Autoleck.... in Welling kent, about an hours drive from central london.

They have been around for years. I have not had anything major fitted by them but have had some little jobs done and they are competent and know their stuff.

www.autoleck.co.uk The website isnt that great, it concentrates on their security side.

Regards

Tan
