Car park dent

;) ;)
Anyone got any suggestions on how to remove the dent for the author of this interesting thread. ;) ;)

I hope everyone have a nice week-end,
John

What about parking in parent/child spaces then? These are obviously designed for people with expensive cars to park in.

Pity it means that those of us with kids then have to park in normal size spaces which is fine except having kids means that doors need to be opened further to get young ones in and out and are likely to be opened with less control depending on age of said kid. Thus more chance of cars next door suffering.

Parking in child/parent spaces when you don't have a child is the most selfish way of parking - worse than using 2 spaces. Good fun arguing with them though - no leg to stand on and the attention is not welcome!

Has anyone removed a dent before. I believe wood and leverage and a hair dryer to warm the area to be bent help. I also have seen someone melt their paint with a hairdryer!

Anyone done it or got any tips?

Hi R2D2,
I would be terrified of trying it. But how big is the crease\dent, and has it damaged the paint?

Hopefully someone will come up with the answer and I will file it away for future reference.

Good luck,
John

No the paints OK. I will try and get a photo tomorrow if its not raining still.

yes getting the paint nice and warm to avoid it cracking is essential (but not hot)

yes minor dents can be popped out from behind or with a combination of front and back pressure

not a job I'd recommend as a DIY job though and not one I would want to attempt on somebody elses car.

If I were you I'd pop down to a local garage/car sales that deals in mid price cars and ask them who they use - they are bound to have somebody local who is good and cheap.

Andy

When my bonnet got dented I was tempted to have a go and make it better but it was easier (if not cheaper) to get the local dent master out to fix it. Depends how bad it is.

I have used the halford dent inprover before and it worked a treat, also i have seen people use a small roller after giving the panel a little heat (hair dryer)

Hope it helps

Neil

Use a teaspoon covered with masking tape on the inside of the dent. Just press the dent out gradually using hand pressure.

Look across the dent to see the metal being formed precisely.

Work the dent from the edge to the centre to avoid the pimpled look.

"Length" wise the Sprinter will bulge out in a Standard Tesco parking Space but "Width" wise it is ok and my wife can easily open our car doors when getting in/out - as we have in past met for coffe/breakfast in the mornings a Tesco.

Are you sure you're not confused about the word "Wife" here? ;)

OK people keep coming up to me saying "do you know someones dented your car?" It's driving me nuts so I have decided it needs done and now! I have also decided to bottle doing it myself.

I have therefore rung a guy called Kris Bull "The Dent Doctor" (07970 263 999)

Has anyone used him before?? I'm seeing him on Wednesday.

Not heard of him, but good luck.

Could you possibly take a 'before' and 'after' picture so that others can see what an excellent repair they do?

Good luck again,
John

Will do. Its not going to be an easy job as the dent is across the line along the doors (if you know what I mean!)

I think that very much depends on the spaces!

IIRC guydewdney said that the W140 CL is too big for a minimum-sized parking space.

yup - 6'2" wide - but the issue is the doors are about 4 feet long - 50% longer than 'normal' doors - i cant open my door enough if someones close to me - so i park in a far-from-everyone-else spot, and hope...

if its full - i enjoy the scared faces on the grannies / crap drivers in general, as they pull very very very slowly out of a space and i hoof it into the same spot - (then look like a prat as spend a minute trying to get out of a tiny gap (the doors are also about 8" thick))

OK, The Dent Doctor has come to see my car. So I'll try to do a how to remove a dent thread, but the hardest thing is showing the dent, which seems hard to photograph.

Note the line of the window in the reflection!

Before: Note line of garage door frame.

Hard to see from his angle. (The pick up is Doctor Dents!)

First you attach a light which projects a black line against the white light. Obviously the aim is to fix the dent until theline goes straight. The black line shows the work to be done!

The painful bit. The first bit is to wedge open the panal to enable tools to get inside. The second job, shown here is removing the high shots of the dent. (My poor car!)
