For those of you who sometimes think that Mercedes reliability and customer service isn't what it was/should be, and were thinking of defecting, just remember, the grass is not always greener.

I quote from May's What Car (acknowledging copyright, etc. - don't ask why I was reading it:crazy: ): "Ian Digges, drives Toyota Verso 1.8 VVT-i T2: 'Having driven more than six models in the Toyota range, I find the Verso very disappointing. My 1.8, which has the MMT gearbox, is sluggish and unreliable - it has broken down five times and had to have a new ECU fitted. What makes this worse is the poor customer service that I have received from Toyota throughout.'"

I'm sorry, and taking into consideration Mr. Digges problem, but I have to come to the defense on Toyota, I have owned a Toyota Avensis 1.8GLS for just over 5 years (121,000 miles) now and I have to say that it has been the most reliable car that I have ever owned, and I have owned a few!

Afraid can't comment on Customer Service as I've never had to take it to any Service Centre, Toyota or otherwise.

Cheers, Bill.

Isn't this what the JD Power survey is for each year?

My old Impreza was absolutely faultless for 4 years, save for an interior light switch that needed replacing. Had I sold it within that time I'd have had a great impression of them.

Then the engine blew, at 62k miles, for no good reason and with no warning. To say I was unimpressed was an understatement - but it goes to show that you can't judge a car or a manufacturer based on any one person's experience.

I must say, though, given reports of MB customer service I'm hesitant to buy one - though since I'd be looking at a car that's out of warranty, I'd probably get it looked after by independent specialists instead.

the most reliable benz i owned was a 25 year old 240td. i always took my cars to an independant specialist, less pricey, better service
