Yes I am 100% serious.

The car was in park and the foot brake was applied.

With regards to learning, that's what I am trying to do by asking for advice here :)

The parking brake works on the rear wheels on a Mercedes and most cars but there have been exceptions.

Some early Saabs , Subaru and several Citroens had front wheel acting handbrakes presumably because they were FWD?

Also back in the `60`s a Fiat 1100 had the handbrake on a type of band around the propshaft/driveshaft.........if it stuck on a bit smoke and smell use to waft up by the gearbox rubber gaiter :)

Land Rovers had a tranmsission brake, a brake drum on the propshaft, rather than a conventional rear wheel handbrake.

Apply it before you come to a complete stop and it bucks and rocks for ages like a fairground ride, as all the free play does its thing.

In principle a transmission brake sounds like a reasonable approach as it benefits from the ratio of the rear final drive ratio to reduce the braking torque required compared to the rear wheels.

MB's conventional parking brakes are up against it being tiny drum brakes inside the disc brake hubs. They are much smaller than that transmission brake.
