Im sorry i know that we are Mercedes focused, so sorry if this thread hurts your brains..

wifey and i are looking for a new car

some Constraints:

1/ Must NOT be mercedes:ban:
2/ should be fairly exclusive
3/ should have a light interior
3/ few different schools of thought are a 4x4 or a sports grand tourer
4/ should have a smart elegant style, but be of higher quality
5/ budget max really £40-£50k
6/ Should not have stigma of an old man/old womans car
7/ not a far eastern brand nor american, thus prob british or german

any one seen anything advertised that looks interesting and/or knows of a car available that just has something special about it..

we have even pondered over the new 3 series saloon.. it looks fantastic and kicks the c class so hard, its gotta hurt, and whilst it hardly answers any of our constraints, it just has something about it...

i admit, this does not answer many of our constraints, but I hope you all may be able to suggest something to help us..

cheers in advance

It would have to be BMW for me 3 or 5 series with that budget for new, used can get most models.

I had a Volvo XC90 a few years back (2005), it was under powered and turned like the QE2 but I think they've improved a lot since then. The cabin was a safe and nice place to be though with the best heated seats, just the whole feel didn't have that of an MB. Gaving said that it was a few years ago

I'd personally go to a Prestige dealer where they have a range of 4x4's and exclusive grand tourers so you can atleast look and see what you could buy. Personally if you're going down the grand tourer route, Bentley conti GT, they aren't as good as the CL but if you dont want Mercs then its the next best thing. (My old man owned both and would go for the CL for over all drive) Bentley is what it is though, classy. Thats if you're doing the used route.

If not 3 or 5 series are CRACKING cars.

Q7 ?

volvo is interesting us at the moment..

as Barry knows, i was hating the BMW 5 GT, then for last few meets, been liking it..

q7 i love, but i think too big

Cayenne.. she loves, im not too keen

great shout, bit heavy on juice if you buy a petrol but they are one of the best driving "cars" out there IMO. I was hard pushed to decide between a turbo cayenne and the merc

the 3 is just soooo nice though.. compared to the c class it furlongs ahead in dynamics, visual appeal and quality..
