cd reading error update

hi folks

following on from my previous thread, had the dealer run a check on the comand system to remedy the problem with nav and audio discs. As expected, they advised a new unit was required at a cost of £1900 approx for the part. However they did not charge me a penny for cleaning the disc and looking into the problem - they even gave it a good clean inside and out !

So, can anybody recommend an outfit that will repair comand units preferably in south west but i do not mind travelling nationwide.

Did you get anywhere in finding someone to repair the Comand system? I have the same problem & rang Blaupunkt who recommended OE Electronics in Calne. They will attempt to repair for about £85 but are not allowed to replace the CD drive itself due to the contract between Blaupunkt & Mercedes. If they cannot fix it they need to send to Blaupunkt in Germany for an estimate to repair.

i had the exact same problem but was fortunate enough to have mine replaced free of charge under warranty

but due to the uncertainty of my claim i also checked to see if the fault could be repaired and contacted these guys

who told me they could indeed repair the fault, the expected cost being around £400 which although not cheap is certainly much less than going through the dealer

Had my satnav serviced by braybrooks after merc quoted £2500 - did a good job and worked a treat after.


Problem is often dirty reading device which can't be cleaned without opening up the unit.
