ml270 cdi
Sorry to resurrect the key fob problem, I have just acquired a 2000 ML270 cdi, has come with both keys. They will not programme I have tried new batteries,

Key to pos' 2 hold lock button unlock x 5, within 10 secs

I also tried the procedure with the doors locked on the center button, on completion the indicator arrows on dash flashed once I managed to unlock the tail gate once.
Otherwise I have no indication the fobs are actualy working. Is there any way of testing the fob is working?? They are 13 years old and well worn one more than other I would have thought one would work,..

Is there any other reset procedures IE disconnect car battery
My OBD reader says no codes

Can you describe your remote fob type?

Flip out type, 3 buttons lock, un lock, tail gate release..

As bottom picture, only difference no lever contact on top just 2 small spring connectors to side of battery.. Does not have a light lens

Thanks

Its radio signal only if no red lenes so not infrared like the one in picture.
Are you saying both keys will not lock/unlock any part of the car?
I Presume car will start ok?
Have you checked any fuses that might in any way be related to central locking?

Dec

I will look into That but I assumed if it was a fuse it would not lock on the interior button and key..

Not sure what the problem is, are you saying both remotes don’t work at all?
If the remote transmits a signal then there has to be a receiver in the car, that receiver may have a blown fuse.

On further reading of the hand book it states alarm should go off if door opened by key this does not happen. In checking I have found the alarm relay has been removed alarm fuse OK visually..
I have checked the locking system fuses visually they are OK I have removed locking system relays and replaced them still not functioning...

Question would a fault on the alarm system stop the central locking working..??

The car battery has been disconnected and reconnected now I can code a key to the system, hold lock 5 x press unlock. It will lock doors once, but not open or close them again. This also disables the locking from the consul button until ignition turned on and off, after which unable to lock with remote.
I have bought an Autel EU702 code reader says no codes or pending

How do you know that relay is the alarm relay, if it is related to the alarm then its unlikely the alarm will work properly if this relay has been removed.

If the alarm was working properly then the hazards lights should flash 3 times when locking and once when unlocking when using the remote fob.
If the alarm wasn’t armed when you opened the door with the metal key blade then it wouldn’t go off.

Will the car lock with the remote from outside the car?
Will the car unlock with the remote from outside the car?
Does a Red blinking (alarm armed) light come on on the dash when you lock the car with the remote?
Does the car start and drive?

Are you doing the code exactly as described on page 274 below?

The diagram under the fuse box cover says it is the alarm relay..

The remote fobs dp not work at all, except one occaision each programming as described, that is my problem..
No red blinking light. I will try to get another relay, it looks the same as the fog light relay I may try a swap for testing ....

Well I have searched for the all activity module on my 2000 cdi. Drawings I have found seem to indicate its on the side of the fuse box but there is no cover to remove only a heat shield and little room between it and the engine. Found the engine module behind fuse box under cover I have discovered a panel under the passenger foot well a single clip on it but it does not come off any idea whats under it?..

How long do you own the car and have you ever seen the locking working correctly?
Does the car start and drive ok?

You could try opening the keys and inspect the buttons, see the guide in below link, different key but same principle.

The alarm system is housed inside the alarm siren, locate the alarm siren and unplug it, see… https://www.google.com/search?q=ml+...=com.microsoft:en-IE:IE-Address&tbm=isch&um=1

Your alarm is very likely not in working order, a defective alarm shouldn’t stop the locking working… but you never know so best to unplug it.

owned a couple of months came with faults. Auto box eec fault I had fixed.. The locking has never worked, (locks from center panel and then lock drivers door) along with the AC which I had charged. Crawling the forums this all points to the AA module..
I can program one of the keys.. It will lock the doors once then not do anything else, I have seen this fault reported on the forums.. I realalise I am going to have to get someone with a STAR programming kit to fix it but would like to know where the parts are first to avoid getting done over..

Does anyone know where the All activity module is and how to remove it??

Shows no OBD cosea as I have a reader

Thanks for that someone said it was under fuse panel but I was unable remove the fuse board as it was very tight fit so I was sceptical....

I will have another try seeing your picture check the plug contacts.. then get someone to look at it with a star scanner..

Well i have my car in a merc specialist at Hove,, his star set up was unable to read my AAM so decided it was faulty i have obtained a used module from EBAY. The specialist has consulted a friendly Merc tech of his aquaintence who states AAM modules are locked to the vehicle on fitting and re programming is not possible.
Can anyone confirm this...????

HELP Thanks

Replacing the AAM
ι Every replacement of All-Activity-Module
requires that a new VIN-specific master key
also be ordered (163 760 27 06).
ι All customer keys must be present to properly
install and test the replacement AAM.
ι The original reserve key (key #1) must be
destroyed after the replacement AAM has
been installed and function tested. The
ordered key is given to the customer.
AAM Replacement Procedure
1. Use the above guidelines (and table) to
determine if AAM version is compatible with
Immobilizer level.
2. Read-in data from old AAM and transfer it to
the new part.
3. Using the supplied master key, program
codes for all eight keys to the AAM through
the “learn transponders” menu in Star
Diagnosis.
ι After transponder codes are learned, the
master key will retain only the #1 key
transponder code and becomes a
reserve key.
4. Learn all RF transmitters to the AAM using
the “Learn RF” menu.
ι Do not use this function to relearn RF
transmitter key already in use if
synchronization has been lost.
5. Check correct function of all transponders
and RF keys.
6. Assure for proper version coding of the
AAM. See Job Aid 54-01.
7. Check all vehicle functions controlled by the
AAM.
ι Until transponders are locked, the AAM
and master key can be left in its original
status through the “Create single use master
key again” menu in Star Diagnosis.
8. Lock transponder codes.
ι This procedure permanently locks the AAM
control unit to vehicle and keys. If this
step is omitted, the AAM will lock
automatically after 30 engine starts.
Replacing/Resynchronizing Vehicle Key
ι All vehicles are delivered with reserve key #1
and RF transmitter keys #2 and #3.
ι Spare keys #4 through #8 can be ordered as a
flat key or RF transmitter.
ι No two keys can have the same number.
ι Each new RF transmitter key must be
individually learned by the AAM with the Star
Diagnosis the first time they are put into
service.
ι Learning is achieved through the “Learn RF
key” menu.
- Follow On-Screen directions.
- Learning is time limited to 10 seconds, but
can
be repeated until proper learning is
achieved.
ι Synchronization of a transmitter already in use
is done without Star Diagnosis.
Resynchronizing the Vehicle Key Procedure
To resynchronize a RF key, do as follows:
1. Insert RF key into ignition and turn to
position 2.
2. Remove key and hold down lock button
while pushing unlock button five times.
3. Release all buttons, then push either lock or
unlock button.
ι Procedure must be completed within10

A new AAM module was ordered form MERC, apparently they could send it progammed by the VIN number.. However it was sent blank and was progammed on the engineers STAR computer.
Module £280 from MERC, £460 inc labour..

I now have central locking end of story for now..
