Hi All,

Just thought I'd ask for your collective experience as I have an intermittent problem with my central locking system or pump.

The issue is that overnight the battery is being drained by the pump opening and closing the doors every 20 seconds or so. This also happened (only once) when I drove home one night. So, I've handed the car over to my local Indie and they've pointed out the culprit to be the central locking pump coming on and causing the drain.

But our concerns are whether it's actually the pump which is faulty or if there is a door module? making the pump come on.

A new replacement pump is £560+vat so an expensive punt

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks

Is the alarm working properly and what year is the car?

Hi Dec,

When the battery is dead in the morning the alarm is dead too, there is nothing - there's no power for even the boot light's to come on...

it's a CL55 kompressor on a 53 plate

Thanks

In theory there could be a vacuum leak which makes the pump run. If the pump runs for too long then the air line is normally disabled to prevent the pump overrunning and overheating.

Out of interest can you see either of the doors or boot being 'sucked in' and then released by the closure feature?

When you fully recharge the car battery, test the car alarm.
If the car alarm siren is the original factory fitted unit then it is now about 12 years old, it is very common for these alarms to cause electrical problems, if your alarm, when tested, is not working properly then it should be disconnected/removed from the car.

The alarm is not necessarily what’s causing the fault but testing the alarm system should be the first thing to check on a car that age.

After locking the car, how much time passes before the pump starts opening and closing the doors every 20 seconds?

Hi Guys

Thanks for responses....in reply the pump doesn't run on after the doors are locked. The doors and boot get sucked in and stay there - they don't get released out again.

Also, I've not tested the alarm as yet but will follow the guidelines when I get it back or may get the garage to check for me.

During the times when the battery has died, we've not heard the alarm go off at all.

On that one day, (when the doors opended and closed every 20 seconds or so) I got out of the car and the door would lock within about 10 seconds and then open again very shortly afterwards....this has only happened once when I've been present - think it happens overnight more hence the battery being dead in the morning - weird !?!?

Thanks again
