Hi guys,

I have searched the HOW TO sectin and could not find anything suitable.

I havejust had my W211 serviced at MB, but refused to pay a £600 difference for having my plugs, air filter and brake fluid changed by them.

I have purchased the plugs and filter, but have never changed the plugs on an e-class before.

Does anybody here have any experience of, advice or a how to guide to change the plugs on a W211 E-class petrol.... V6 = 12 plugs!!

Thanks in advance.

Just an aside - the brake fluid change is not straightforward. I can't imagine the rest being to hard though.

Have you tried changing the plugs on a V6.?

Brake fluid change £200, plugs £200 + plugs.

That £600 isn't looking so bad..

I'll second that on the plugs. Very time consuming and a lot of patience required, not to mention a good selection of 3/8 and 1/2 extensions and, U/Js. and be prepared for any plug lead to break a copper end off when refitting into a coil. (If you decide to remove them from the coils, I did for cleaning with contact spray, and they did need that after 6 years in situa)

Ended up having to do a Heath Robinson repair with a soldering iron to one, until a new lead arrived in the post. And at £23 each, they are not cheap x 12 ! Note that some "A" and "B" leads are different P/Ns.

I wouldn't want to do the plugs myself either. Why not try a specialist? If you've not done it before and you don't have the right tools there's probably too much that could go wrong. Then £600 will seem pretty cheap.

I had the plugs on my C320 done by the main dealer, I know it was £££'s but it gave me piece of mind. I had always intended to do it at a specialist but didn't get round to it and only remembered when it was in for a service. Had a W211 E280 Sport Edition from them for a day and a half and returned to a valted freshly serviced car with new spark plugs, not bad really...

If you decide not to fit yourself, I reckon that you will get a good Indy to fit the plugs for a lot less than the quote you got from MB. Ask around,

I charge £150 for a 12 plug change. Got all the gizzmos to do it with too :D

Thanks for all your advise guys - I do have a my regular indy who has offered to do them but is on holiday for 2 weeks.

I will definitely wait him to return...

Then I have dropped the car off to the dealership again today as last week when they had it for servicing - they managed to put a dent in the passenger side door, as well as over filling it with oil.

I had the oil issue resolved asap, and the booked the car in for the bodyshop (having admitted it 'may have been dented in workshop').

Currently I am driving a B180 CDi with 800 miles on the clock. Its just as plasticcy as the new C-class though the fabric on the doors gives the B-class a better feel.

Once again, Thanks for all your advise guys!!

Only prob is you are miles away... I am in Watford.
Never mind, if you do it yourself give me a call and I will talk you though it.
