The rear brake pads on my E320CDI Estate is down to 2 - 3 mm and time to change them ahead of its service. Problem is I don't seem to be able to get them out after punching out the retaining pins and removing the retaining spring (just like those in the Haynes manual for the W202). I couldn't see any retaining bolts.

Has any done this, if so what is the trick?

Thanks

Have you prised the pistons back by pressing on the pad face.?

I serviced mine the other day both inner rear pads were a right toss to get out, had to work them back and forth then use a screwdriver in each hole and wiggle them out so far tap them back in again and wiggle them out fully, nearside was worst, good clean of rust out of caliper and a file to the edge of the pads and they were a nice snug fit, watch the piston seals when cleaning caliper as they stick out slightly and you dont want to split them.

My pads were good to go again but in your case a bit of wd40 cant hurt just a good clean with brake cleaner afterwards to remove any residue.

Use a hammer and punch to knock the pads away from the disc as you are not using them again it will not matter what you do to get them out.

i did this job on my W124 saloon. i pushed the pistons back with the pad in place by levering with a flat bladed screwdriver. the pads were pretty knackered by the time i'd got them out. once the pistons are pushed back use the screwdrivers to hammer them out aswell.

Just use a decent sized pair of pliers or grips to press the pads back into the caliper.
