Well, the one that I had lined up to buy has fallen over since he has decided to keep it. Great  Price was agreed, everything ready to go.

So......

anyone got/know of a CL420/CL500 or S500 coupe (not really that keen on the V12's but would depend on the car) that they are looking to sell?

Seen the usual ones in the autotrader that have been for sale for so long now, they are eligible for bus passes

Cheers

Bit of an oddball suggestion - have you considered R129s, mint 126 SECs and maybe even a faultess C215 CL? :)

All can be had for well under £10k today for some quite nice examples.

Have you exhausted eBay as well?

Hi

SL - been there done that! Does not really work when you live on the 4th floor with no garage! In a few years, I will get an SL again but just not practical at the moment.

I will get flamed for this but I don't like the 126's and while the C215's are dropping like stones, there is just something about the C140's that I like.

Ebay - there have been a few but most of them are either a) rubbish or b) for sale for over a year now (two in particular)

Thought I would stick a post up here since would allow a bypass of the usual dreamers/timewasters that come up in the normal channels.

Hi.

Yes I had - I was offered this car before Xmas by the then seller (but I passed as the CL which I was supposed to buy was nearly a done deal - which since fell over when that seller pulled out...grrr....lesson learned there!! Try to do the right thing and it comes back to bite you)

Anyways, the seller had wanted low £4's for the car.

So there is absolutely no way I am paying a 100% markup to CCB (seems to be the average that is used by them since they did the same with a burgandy auction S500 coupe a few years back....went for £4000 if I remember correctly then popped up for £10,000!)

Hence my preference to buy from a private seller - a lot easier to see what has been done, normally get all the service history, books, files, receipts and so forth.

Everyone has to make some money and a bit of a markup is fine to turn a profit but the asking price is la la land - someone will pay it no doubt but won't be me.

Cheers

Hi Setanta - Unless that dealer can document several thousands worth of prep & remedial work to that vehicle then I agree that the price they're asking is outrageous - more than 100% mark up just isn't on in my book. As these cars are relatively scare it's often not that difficult to monitor their progress from auctions to dealer forecourts so the dealers purchase price is often known.
