CL500 - My ULEZ Friend!

Interesting. I was just thinking that an N/A 5.5 might have more "instant" power delivery than a notionally more powerful but bi turbo 4.7. Whilst forced induction has come on a long way there is still always just that hint of lag particularly if you are used to an N/A engine or better still a supecharged motor (55k). I say this as a past CLS 55 owner but now a CLS 500 4.7 biturbo driver
I do think the 5.5 has a lovely instant pick-up. Always entertains me to give the throttle pedal a light dab and feel the car surge forward. But I've not driven the 4.7tt so can't compare. Anyway for heavy acceleration a downshift is generally needed, which necessitates a pause before the power kicks in.

Good point. The torque with the 4.7tt means it just surges forward in any gear....after a microsecond.

Litterally just around the corner.
Can you share the details of your leather repair guy? I have a couple of bits on another car I would love to get looked at, and he looks decent.
Hey mate, it's not letting me message you yet. Do some more posts and I'll send you a PM mate. :)

It's very immediate, something I guess I'm less used to driving a mapped six cylinder diesel which does have that delay then a surge. I can imagine a V8 turbo, especially a modern one will feel pretty immediate too though.

Couple of little things with the CL this weekend. Quick clean up to keep it looking nice...

I'm not using the car as a daily or for the regular big drives I do, just the occasional one so I got myself a convenience plug for my C-Tek. I stupidly left the last plug in the S Class when I sold it.

Also, I'd noticed the engine note was nice from inside but not what it's like from the outside. Car had been idling about 15 mins but was cold on Sunday morning. Sounds better than I anticipated!

Well that was another bracing car wash today. I mean the ice on it did look quite cool (literally).

15 minutes running the car, let it warm up and a rinse and all the ice was gone. Then a wash and quick layer of Seal N Shine for good measure!

Annoyingly it's been intermittently giving me a restraint error that comes and goes. Not sure how susceptible these are to the seat sensors playing up like in my old E Class or something else. Something to keep an eye on and sort in the spring. May even just be that it doesn't like the cold haha

Stunning as usual , love the ice badge pics .
Whats the small skull and crossbones sticker thingy ?

9 out of 10, SRS fault on a Merc will be the Front Passenger Seat Occupancy Sensor (aka sensor mat). Read the fault codes, and get it replaced if necessary. There are other possible causes, including the seat belt, the connector under the passenger seat, the Steering Wheel Angle Sensor (aka clock spring), and the SRS ECU.

Yeah the icy pics I thought were cool. Don't get ice crystals like that too often!

That's a Pistonheads sticker, I tend to bung them on most of my car. Smiley and crossed pistons haha

I suspect the seat occupancy sensor. I did plug it in and nothing really showed but it comes and goes so didn't show anything logged. That was on the iCarsoft but I'll get my specialist to take a look in the new year. I'll have a full service done and get that looked at.

Wheel refurbishment will be done first though. Early 2023!! :D

A Saab in its home conditions
Great photo

Mine was good in the modest amounts of winter we got down here back in the 2010's (better than the RWD Mercedes!)

It was back in 2010 we had some 'proper' winter and some snow.

Ironically I've just put my Shogun Sport off the road which is a perfect winter car and bought a convertible!!! Although like you say FWD is better than RWD in ice and snow.

Was the AMG sticker on the car when you bought It ?

It was indeed, I assume to go with the wheels and kit rather than anything else. I'll probably de-badge it entirely in the new year.
Firing Squad cancelled
then Alex, at least for the time being. 😉🙂

Haha I even put a thread up on here about it. Should it stay or go! :D

Handsome car 👌🏻

I suspect that the CL has the largest percentage of AMG-badged non-AMG cars of any model. It feels like every other CL 500 I see has an AMG badge, perhaps because it’s easiest to pull off the illusion because they’re rarely seen and only come with V8 petrol engines.

It's either you or the AMG sticker buddy! 🤪
Ok ok. No pressure! haha

Yeah they do seem to often come with an AMG badge on them, when I was looking around. I'm not sure if dealerships offered them with the option to put one on. Maybe as it has the AMG styling packs added.

No, only Dic+heads put them on

Hahaha I see. Well it'll likely be gone in the spring, I need the country to thaw out a bit before I venture near it!

Key thing in the new year will be a wheel refurb though.
