Oh one more thing
Dealer in question took 400£ of my original px price to sort out bubbles on sunroof (doubt it was done) - ask to get it done maybe?
Also as far as I remember one of the rear shocks had a slight leak (nothing major) - worth using warranty?
Otherwise pretty awesome CL with all common issues sorted

Borys, I agreed the deal with that sunroof work to be done, when I picked the car up it wasn't done, they are calling me when they can fit it in.
I must admit I am pleased to have read your posts and see what she's had done. when I was looking at her first at the dealers I did notice the abc pump was bright and shiny under the bonnet, that was a tick in my book. I've taken out the dealers warranty for 15months as part of the deal, so I'll check out if that strut is covered. I do have a question, how do you Bluetooth to the car, the display finds my phone but nothing else. could I be cheeky and ask what they gave you for her, I bought for approx £6k after px and haggling.

Thats great!!
They did not made money then on the car.i've got 5.5k as px.You got a really great deal there!!!
Bluetooth you need a cradle to use it-took it out and sold it already (cheeky me). Think its around 150 for a new one

It's a late 2001, had 77K on it when I bought it in Oct 15.
Obviously well cared for judging the all round condition, FSH, (inc serviced in July at MB)
It's now just approaching 80k, it's a joy to drive.

It did have a hiccup last week, speed sensor on gearbox failed, so had it changed at Wayne Gates, terrific indie in Harrow.

With regard to all the comments re ABC pumps, there are companies now doing rebuilt units much cheaper, same with valve blocks. So although there may possibly be problems in the future, costs may not be what have been posted up so far - which may be based on MB dealer prices.

Hope this helps :)

Borys Thanks for the info, I've got a jabra clipped to the sun visor, whilst I investigate that cradle thingy!

Borys
Have ordered a Bluetooth thingy from bluetoothmercedes, so hopefully will be connected shortly.
Did the heated rear window element work when you had it? I turned it on this morning and nothing, have check the fuse and that's ok (big 50A jobby) so it's the relay next.

Not sure about rear window
Bluetooth will work nicely :-)
I remembered now, look into front door speakers upgrade. I missed Bose when I had it. When you want to get some bass and go crazy on loud, speakers don't keep up
There is a nice cheap upgrade like for like with thread on this forum somewhere as far as I remember

i remember this car, I didnt have keyless go, or bose from that I remember. In fact getting a CL500 with them is more hard than it sounds. I already have a great sound system in my current car, and keyless go. I dont want to step down on my creatrure comforts with my next car.

I have since figured out a CL55 is the one to get, but where to get a 2004 model.

Bluetooth thingy has arrived, all sorted, up and running in a minute, and all paired to the iphone6, all tied into the car controls, very nice

I am liking the CL500 very much, plenty of grunt, and I do like the way it corners. Also noticed my wife is taking the keys at every opportunity!

Couldn't agree more :D
Be patient, keep asking and looking in the right places (& the wrong places!). Let some of the 'indys' know you are on the look out, they probably service/maintain more of them than the main dealers and generally get the first inkling of any potential sale.
It will be worth the wait, I promise you.

Matt

Oh dear we have a problem with the W215
ABC warning message, wife was driving and got a ABC go to workshop message. When she got home I went outside restarted the car and it went.
Checked the ABC reservoir, top mark on the dipstick when cold, lower mark after starting.
Message came on again this morning before I got moving. Turned off the engine and restarted and messages all gone.
Later on today she started without any messages
Car has a new pump fitted less than a year ago, fluid is nice and clean.
No corners dropping overnight, when I do start it, no obvious lifting.
Anybody any thoughts?

I'm considering buying an icarsoftMB II, just need to make sure it will read the codes

Front valve block was fitted as a used unit from 2001 model
Just an indication
We checked the dampers membranes all were good, rear block ok too (we cleaned it nicely as well)
Front valve was giving me trouble after replacing the pump, tried to fixed it but we ended up buying used one.

Thanks for the info Borys
I'll see how it goes over the next few days, as the warning seems to clear after a restart And the fluid level is ok I'll carry on driving, do some reading up, and then see about getting the codes read. Cheers

I had soft ABC warnings that went away after a restart and would come back intermittently. Turned out to be a worn ABC pump.

Well CL was diagnosed with a sticky valve in the OSF strut. Phil at Welwyn Merx has replaced the strut, and the supply pipe (seized connection) and we are now all sorted!

I've just come to this post, a little late in the day. I currently run an E500 and SL500 which both share many of the niggles of the CL500. I've also run the S500 and a slew of other big engined BMW's and Lexus.

The CL500 is certainly a fabulous, hugely expensive car, and will be very satisfying to run.

But you can't compare the reliability of Mercedes or BMW to Lexus and Toyota. They will need fettling and everything will be very expensive. Because they are expensive, people do "economise" on servicing, so you see a crazy number of cars for sale which have not been serviced properly (generously), so that's a bigger risk for the new owner.

So, good in with your sceptical eyes open, and understand that there is an enormous difference between cars which have been serviced, loved and garaged, and cars which have been run on a shoestring.

If you want something to think about, have a look at this, which shows that a quarter of all the W215's in the country have been scrapped in the last five years. (Down from 2,700 to 2,100 cars). There's a reason:
