If, like me and others on the forum you use cold/warm water to clear the morning frost - a word of advice. Make sure that when you are wearing your best £400 suit, and silk tie, your rain sensing wipers are off............

This morning I got rather wet!

Marc

sorry - another one picturing the image and chuckling :D :D

Something I wore to court once when they banned me from driving. :-)

Oops !!

Don't you have a nice auxilliary heater function with a timer that you can set to pre-heat the car when its gonna be cold enough to need scraping ? :D

wow £400 suit

don;t have a £400 quid anything ...mind you i don:t defrost the car ....i work from home ..just let nature do it .....and if nature can not defrost it i won;t go out :bannana:

Talking of defrosting MB's when I bought my car (C220) and drove it back from Holland it was the coldest couple of days you could think of. The salesman over there did say something about a superboost heater that would come on automatically below -4C when the engine was started. We parked the car outside a dodgy hotel somewhere in Holland (got lost going home) I spent the whole night looking out the window checking on it.
I started the car in the morning, temp was around -5C the windows and heater came on almost instantly and we were ready to go in seconds, this has never worked since, it never gets that cold here in Worcs.
Anyone else know of this or did I just dream it all :-)

Dave

The same can happen using a Squeegee to clear the windows as I found out. I went round the car quickly clearing the windows, as soon as I wipped the Squeegee across the sensor the wipers came on and I got wet!

I assume this is a 220Cdi, if so they are fitted with an auxillary diesel heater. Occasionally you can see puffs of smoke from under the front wing, thats the heater working.

Just a note of warning. Please dont use water from a freshly boiled kettle!!! I once did this on my porsche 944 and the screen cracked from top to bottom right in front of my eyes  It seemed to go in slow motion and i just felt like being sick!! LOL I can laugh now but it wasnt much fun when it hapened.

ps Marc, that story is rather funny mate :D I can just imagine you jumping back in horror :D :D LOL

Once when scraping the screen I banged the wipers down to dislodge the ice and the screen went from side to side. :(

If you must use water, best to use cold water. Hot water evaporates quicker and leaves a film of ice on the window (as well as possibly cracking it).

something to do with latent heat !!, so I'm told

Does the ML270cdi have one of those? If so is it automatic?
