Climate Control Problem

Hi.

I have a 1987 300 E.
It has a dual climate control system. One for the drivers side and one for the passengers side. And a dial for each side.

Now my problem is as follows. When the car is running, both in the passenger side, and in the drivers side, the air is HOT, like really hot. And it will stay like this, no matter how I turn the dials. With one exception, if I set it at the coldest possible setting, after the "click", then cold air starts to blow in. So this makes me think it is not the monovalve.

So I am thinking, that it is the temperature sensor inside the car that is faulty somehow. Now I belive the sensor is located near just next to the electric sunroof switch. But how do you actually get to it, and how to I do some trouble shooting on this thing.

Can any one help.

Are you sure its drivers side/passenger side?
I would expect front/rear.
In which case maybe its not as bad as you first thought.

Yes I am sure. But it behaves the same in both sides. And independently. Meaning if I set it to the coldes setting in the drivers side, it will blow cold air out the side port. And at the same time, if the passengers side is in any other setting then the coldest, it will blow really hot air.

The temp sensor has a little fan to draw air into it. try holding a piece of tissue paper in front to see if it is actually working.

Sometimes these things get choked with fluff. Not sure on your model but perhaps the little grill will pop out? So you could clean out any debris

Ok I looked at the tem sensor next to the cabin light, and there does not seem to be a fan of any sort. I tried to clean what was there the best I could, but at no result.

I turned the heat up in the car so that it was like a sauna inside. It was bleow freezing outside, and I was swetting inside the car. And nothing, just keeps blowing hot air.

Is there a way to do some mesurements of some sort with a multi volt/ohm/amp device, so I can get some more information.

The fan in the cabin light is just a grill and tube. the fan itself is located on th eside wall behind the glove box if I recall.

The cabin light assembly pops out and you can then easily disconnect the hose and feel for yourself whether the fan is working. (I suspect your problem lies elsewhere).

You said 'monovalve'. Does it not have a duovalve?

I meant duovalve. I have just been reeding to much about the American version with the automated system, and the have the monovalve. Sorry about that.

Ok I have found this link, and some information about the different problems with the Climate Control.

http://www.mercedesshop.com/shopforum/showthread.php?p=567735

One of the symptoms he describes is right on the money for what I have experienced.

Another common problem is that the climate control only seems to work on max or min values, quite often this can be attributed to a disintegrated foam hose which runs from the dash to the temperature sensor for the climate control.

Now what I cannot find, is any information on where that foam hose, he is talking about is located. Does anyone have some pictures or something that can guide me in the right direction.

I would guess it runs up the A pillar to the sensor in the ocp

Yes it does, and I have located it, and there seems to be nothing that messes with it, and there seems to be ever so small amount of suction also.
