CLK 320 Just bought - advice

Not a comment on the white heater dials? *isnt feeling the love*
Looks excellent! Lifts the interior and gives it a much more modern look. Love the chrome too. This is something I would have done to my old C coupe if I still had it.

Thanks Bpsorrel. Its always nice to hear someone appreciates your work!!

For those who dont read the interior forum - I did a great mod at the weekend by buying an auto dimming w ambient light rear view mirror from a W210 2001 model. Its a straight plug and play mod from the standard CLK mirror. My local scrapyard had one for £10 (with a set of AMG pedals from an R170 SLK). You literally pull your existing mirror out - remove the courtesy light panel - plug the new lead that comes with the auto dim mirror into your courtesy light unit - put courtesy light panel back in and then clip new mirror into place and you will have working auto dim and a nice LED ambient lit cabin. I wouldnt go to a Merc breakers for these as they wanted £70 for the part.

Just bought a set of these in immaculate condition with two nearly new tyres and two worn tyres for £150. Fitment at weekend if I get time. They are ET37 should be a straight fit without issue according to Mercedes.

Wheels on. Very pleased with the nice standard look and cant help but think these suit the car far better than the Meraks.

Update - since my last post I have now decided on the quite rare staggered AMG 17" Monoblocks. I went for these as they give the car a nicer stance while keeping a more stock look than the 18" replicas. I am awaiting a refurb before they go on as I like things to look mint before they go on. I have decided on no polished rim as I know what a nightmare they become as soon as the laquer is chipped. I am going for a very bright silver finish which should look really good when on the car. (wheel pic is a library pic).
I have removed and repainted all the calipers in hammerite smooth silver finish and they look very nice now. Unfortunately all the family and the better half want theirs done now too!
I also removed the engine cover and polished the top of the engine a little to remove the oxidisation and am so far quite pleased with the results. I may fit a sanding disc to my mop and have a slightly better go at this. Whilst I have the mop out I intend to do some paint correction and get the red paint looking as glossy and wet as I possibly can :)

I have an MOT due on 23rd Jan so its in on the 19th and I am hoping it will pass. I may change the rear pads before then as they are low anyway. Its also due its B service in just over 3000 miles and I intend to do an oil service and check the belts etc I may also get the gearbox oil flushed and changed although technically speaking that isnt due for another 9k.
Any suggestions for other items I should be looking at checking/replacing at this mileage? (plugs were done at 72k)

Car just passed its MOT without a single advisory!! The guy who did the test commented on how rust free it was and that is was 'very red' - which i'll take as a good thing!

Alloys back from the refurb company in an hour. Cant wait. Fitting them on Saturday. Feels like its xmas eve, those who suffer the same car affliction as me will know what I am talking about...

Wheels back from refurb and looking superb - big thanks to Dave at Car Concierge in Virginia Water. I went with a very bright silver/chrome finish that you can make out in the first photo...

I have also bought these to brighten them further.

The dust caps I have are better quality than these with all the logos central.

I was just going to say they needed chrome star centre caps!

Totally agree, I think the chrome caps really lift the wheels. If it wasnt going to be dark when I get home then the alloys would be on tonight!!

They look great. Looking forward to seeing them on the car, but I would wait until the salt is off the roads.

Had a guy pick my old ones up so the new ones have to go on despite the weather. Very pleased with the look of the car now

Thoughts on driving the car on the new wheels so far - tramlines a bit more than before but that is to be expected. It also highlights the dead steering around the straight ahead - but when its off the straight ahead point it feels much more direct and turn in is far better. The ride has been affected but not as much as I thought it would be so overall i'm happy. It does seem to me that Mercedes designed the car around the 16" wheels though as it feels happier and more relaxed on them.

Another gratuitous shot...

Car booked in for some servicing - I am getting a new draglink put in (a bilstein/febi one)and the gearbox oil will be checked and replaced if neccessary - I did think of doing this myself and then I read Olly's guide and thought far better of it! Its due its B service but I will carry out the majority of that. I have just bought some new parts - Bosch oil and air filters, Pagid front pads and wear sensors and I will be fitting them when I get a chance over the next couple of weeks.

Just as a side note the clonk noise from the front was the draglink.
