CLK cab 350 or 500

Haven't driven the 5 litre engine but in the R171 SLK the 350 is very quick, free-reving and remarkably frugal engine. EG Last night (following AC/DC concert), NEC to home in Bristol 1hr 15mins, 29.8 mpg. Going to the show and taking about 20 mins or so longer 33.5 mpg. Cant see a V8 getting near those sort of consumption figures. However the only way to be sure which one is right for you is to drive both. Good luck!

Most people wouldn't be able to detect any difference due to the lower weight of the V6 (do you think your car handles differently with a full tank compared to an empty one?).:D

Slightly, but more noticable is the increased MPG when the car is lower on fuel...

30% more torque will be much more noticeable IMO :D

As will the cost of the extra spark plugs, insurance and increased tyre wear....

Looking at a pre-facelift W209 CLK 500 cab this weekend....are these a good buy compared with the post facelift models.....main differences seem to be 5 speed instead of 7 speed, different dash and older Comand....anything else to be aware of?

I think I remember reading about changes to the paint process during the W209 production. Hopefully someone can confirm this.

Nano paint and galvanisation came in during 2004. An 54 or 05 is what I'd aim for

350 272 Bhp 350nm torque
500 306 Bhp 460nm torque

V8 500 has 30% more torque than V6 350

I guess what I'm saying is there difference of the old 500 over the new 350 probably isn't enough to warrant the slightly higher purchase costs and running costs. However with the newer 5.5 the difference is so much larger it's a noticeably different specification and probably worth the premium.

Check the build date and search for one of hawk20's post re nano paint and galvanisation....

Thanks....hawk20's post very useful.....this seems to confirm that the car we are looking at is fully galvanised....this is reassuring to know...
