My father has just taken delivery of a 58 CLK 220 it has a roof aerial but I'm a little unsure what it is for. He didn't order any options other than metallic paint, so is this aerial just for the radio?

I'd be grateful if anyone can shed any light on this.

Are you talking about a 'fin' sticking up at the back of the roof in the center?

If so, I think that is probably a GPS or telephone antenna or both.

If not, post a piccy there are some knowledgeable chaps and ladies on here who will be sure to know.

Yes it's a small fin. I will take a photo later and post it.

My E220 cdi has a small roof aerial and have been informed that it`s for GPS. Seems strange that the aerial would be there with no comand installed from new.

BMW do the same with the 5 series. Might work on a similar concept.

there are 3 antenna in the E60 5 series ( current model)

- Blank , dummy that does nothing

- GSM for the telephone cradle antenna coupler between the front seats.

- GSM+GPS for the telephone and navigation.
