Got onto the A41 heading to Bicester this afternoon and I was outpaced by a Golf. Didn't think much of it and certainly wasn't trying to race, I just tried to keep up. It wasn't till I looked at my speedo to find we were doing x  and thought this can't be an average Golf. Sure enough, when we got to the roundabout, I saw the badge; V6 4Motion  That is one seriously quick Golf.

My old boss used to have one, i took it round Goodwood a couple of times, the steering is scarily light and power assisted on those babies ...... no feel whatsoever.......

But they are quick cars and have a lovely sound when you drop them into second in the John Lewis underpass in Kingston and bury the throttle !!

Those kinds of speeds are all too easy on that stretch of A41. Ahh heaven, twice a day :D Although I admit never been quite that quick!

Any Golfs that seem a bit too rapid around Bicester, watch out for the ones with AmD stickers on the back, their demonstrators go around the place at worpe speed.

I'm just waiting for the speed cameras to appear one day. I'm also cautious of the overpass halfway down as it seems a prime location for a mobile camera.

I don't usually do that there, but it always seems to go quicker on the way back to town. :D My father-in-law did it in his A8 (4.2 V8) one day and we were up to 150 in no time.

I am careful as yes there could be cameras one day and you do pass Traffic Police cars coming the other way time to time.

However, despite the odd accident near the junctions (which I slow for EVERY time) the road is unharmed by the council.

I can honestly say I travel faster on this road than most motorways.

I now slow to not too much over 70mph when going over the peak of the small dual carriage way too, as one day I came over and there was a Traff. Pol car there. Luckily a truck driver had flashed me on my approach and I had slowed.

The B4011? towards Oakley is a great up down round and roound, fast 4th gear corner type B road blast road too :D Can be frustrating - not loads of overtaking space, but get a clear run and you will be smiling.

ive heard a few claims that the standard mk 4 1.6 petrol can get 130

This has 10BHP less then a standard 2.0 GTI - top speed I got from MK4 1.6L was 117MPH flat out on a straight strectch but got it to 120MPH on a downwards sloped steretch of motorway. The 1.6L is not that bad for accelerating.

Never underestimate the Golf, whilst there are many chav'ed examples out there, there are also some seriously fast modded cars too. There's twin turbo R32s in the US and Germany with massive power. Due to their popularity there's many good ones here too.

One of the guys on the MkIV forum has a 320bhp 1.8T which appears completely stock until you look closely, there's also a fella with a NoS injected diesel and one who's building a diesel with a hybrid turbo good for 220bhp+..... None of them have flashy paint jobs or body kits, usually just bigger alloys.

Having said that there's bicycles which are faster than the SDi!

I guess mine is putting out nearly 170bhp and 400Nm just with a couple of OEM+ type mods and a tuning box... I don't race, but when you've got grunt everything else just seems to be in the way! ;)

guys, check this out.
i will never mess with a golf again!

Aye Carumba!!!! Ok that is a VERY fast Golf but . . . .

As that looked like a track day, I doubt that many of the other drivers were really trying hard. A few of the other cars there could have given him a harder time if they had wanted to. A great example is that first 911 in the video, he was trying (a little) but the Golf just out braked him. A better driver sure, but a faster car?</devils advocate>

true matey, but see the suburu at the end, how quickly does that sprint in an out of corners! but on the straight and leading into the next corner the golf just mauls it completley!!

and the m3, which was giving some stick but still went past it! heard the engine on it? wow!

but yeah, very very valid point and i doubt the guy behind the wheel of the mucilego would like to try agsint this monster! always the driver and not the car but in this case both!

Not a huge fan of Golfs but I'd have this one...900bhp and 4wd

Slightly OT ...... but has anyone seen www.ringmini.de ?

Its basically a guy in Germany who builds custom minis for a laugh, my old boss encountered him at the ring in his 993 RS , he watched the mini go round and reckoned that there was only ever one wheel at a time on the ground !!

click on English version , Videos, then onboard lap of Nordschliefe...

its a big file, but well worth a watch , it reels in M3's and all sorts, but looks wildly out of control from the onboard cam .!!

no its a standard golf mk 4 1.6 petrol no mods at all unless you count alloys.

i know the person that is saying that but i mean mite not have been exactly 130 somewhere between that and 125 me thinks not down hill either

and as of what flash says sounds possible.

its a very light car and good traction

Just don't reckon a standard 1.6 Golf in mk4 guise is good for 130mph .... sorry.

I had a 1.8l Mk1 Golf Gti and that never came near 130mph , while i accept that engine technology has come on a lot since then, the Golf now weighs as much as a whale, so i reckon 110/115 to be more realistic.

Remember, speedos become mroe inaccurate the higher speed you achieve, so an indicated 130 is probably more like 115 or 120 tops.....

my vw transporter gives the petrol gti's a run for its money, A41.
9.2 206bhp shocking !
