Hi everybody, I'm new at posting so bear with me. I recently purchased an old CLK coupe w208 on a 97 plate. I adore the car but the problems I have uncounted since have been mind blowing. This site has been inspirational in solving everything especially on the electrical front, however my main headache at the moment will seem nothing but its really bugging me. Below the arm rest between the seats is the little storage compartment, the dam thing won't stay closed, all it does is spring back to the open position. I have been scratching my head to know what's broken so I can fix or replace it but I don't want to buy the complete centre console and I have no idea what part to look for if it can be repaired, I can't see how it is suppose to stay shut so any advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks for taking the time to even read this post.

Without removing mine it's difficult to say (plus it's dark :-)) - There are two springs visible, one on either side. Looks like it could become dislocated from the two pivot points, didn't take much effort to move mine. On each side there is also a plastic arm parallel to the main body which flexes when the cover closes. Don't know how critical these are but I'd check them. You may just have to remove it and work out how it's supposed to work, will probably be easier to figure out once it's in your hands.

There is very little you can do without removing it you can try removing the inner tray and spraying some WD40 or the like either side of the mechanism through the track slots.
To remove it you will have to remove the entire centre console, as the cubby secoured by 4 small phillips screws only accessed from under the console.
The console from memory is secured by a couple of screws in the arm rest cubby, two under the gearbox trim and a couple at the very front on the sides of the console.

I will have another look tomorrow as I have time, I just know I'm going to have to take half the interior to bits to get to it, these mercedes are to well built for anything to be simple. Anyway thanks for your advice and ill keep you posted how I get on.
