Hello everybody!

I have a problem with my airmatic suspension for the last two weeks.

Firstly, I took the car to an independent Merc spec and they replaced the compressor as it was running all the time (causing the fuses to blow). However, the malfunction warning came back on the dashboard the same they I collected the car.

I went back to the specialist this Monday and they found out that the compressor is still on all the time. STAR diagnose didn't say anything precise, so they are confused (as well as I am).

Do you perhaps know what can cause the compressor to run constantly?

btw. there is a possibility that the compressor is faulty itself as it is a refurbished one (even though I told them to order a new one...).

Merry Xmas!!!

Could the relay be at fault - sticking?

Not sure whether the airmatic system times out or anything but the other obvious thing would be a leak. Wouldn't have thought that difficult to diagnose.

A decent specialist would be able to check the compressor function quite easily - maybe time to look around elsewhere if they can't sort it properly. I presume that they are familiar with MB and the airmatic systems?

I had a compressor go,and it was a leak on a union, all the compressor does is replace air in the tank for use if needed by the suspension, when it has done that it should stop,I am a little puzzled because if it was a leak the compressor would fill the tank and stop and then start again because of the leak,in the programme I think the compressor gets 6 seconds to fill the tank if it fails to do this you get the warning light with the car and arrow pointing up.

They said that the relay was replaced along with the compressor...They also said that they checked the rest for a leak and didn't find anything...

I checked uncle Google for reviews and they were positive, so I decided to visit this garage (MB indie in Lincoln). However the fact that they ordered me a refurbished compressor (by Mercedes itself) instead of a new one, made me think...

I am no expert, but I think the star can somehow empty the tank in order for the test on the pump,I would have thought that as your pump is running all the time the fault would lie with whatever tells the car that the air tank is full, there must be a pressure switch or the like,I think it will not be a leak, because your new pump must be able to fill the tank and then stop,if it was a leak after a short time it will start again, the fact you pump runs all the time must mean it is trying to fill a already full tank, give this indy one more chance to fix then find another indy around your way maybe somebody on here can point you to a good one

Their knowledge is limited that's why they are going to take my car to the main dealer for inspection...It is booked for 4th of January, so I need to be patient...

Luckily, I was given a courtesy car for that time (A 150)..

I have finally got my car back! after 2,5 weeks...I missed it a lot ;)

It occurred that the compressor which was replaced had a malfunction as well, so it had to go back to Merc and they ordered a new one. However, because the "specialist" didn't replace the relay, MB advised to change it along with hoses and a filter ( +277 GBP...). I let them do it only because I didn't want to loose the warranty which was possible if something happened to the compressor once again and I would decline they recommendations.

To sum up, 973 GBP for all + dirty interior + scratch on the passengers door + half of the fuel tank gone...

I also did a picture of the fuse box in the engine compartment and I was just wondering about the relay that was replaced - is it the one below the 40AMP fuse that relates to Airmatic? It looks strange in comparison to the other relays as it doesn't have neither a part number nor brand name on it.
