CLS 55 Next year!

A variety of animals in that selection.

I think it depends what you want the car for.

I loved my M3 Evo 15 years ago when I was 24 but I wouldn't want it now.

CLS55 would be my choice as the CLK is too slow, as said, and M3 budget too low aside, I wouldn't want a car like that now - I prefer a more comfortable cruise now (and so do my ho's :D).

GT is the only Maserati I would consider but not enough to buy one!

CLS55 AMG for the looks alone!!

Plus the 55k engine is sweet!

16k should land you a decent model, obviously if you find an immaculate one for a bit more then it's always worth pushing your budget a bit as it will be worth it in the long run.

Oh come on now. A CLS weighs 1930kg with a power to weight of 252bhp/tonne and a CLk55 weighs 300kg less, its not gonna be miles away.

There is a big difference. Trust me, the n/a 55 cannot compare to the s/c one.
You are talking over 100bhp difference for a start, then there's the torque.

Hmm, I've raced 2 SL55s in my was standard SLK55 at Santa pod and beat them both! ;)

My best was 12.6@109mph
Sl55 best on the day was 12.9

If you have 16K, i would swap CLK55 for CLK63.. that would be plenty fast and have the big sound!

we are all ofcourse biased :-) as most of us have 55K's, remember this though...if you choose CLS55, you will be one of the 370 or less cars on UK with that combination :-)

I always wanted a CLS when i was mid 20's and finally bought one last year and after thinking long and hard about the engine, i went for 55K as it made soo much sense and i was only £15 a week worse off than my previous 320cdi W211 sport.

CLS may not go up in value but...it will for sure retain its credibility and class with many years to come. Tidy CLS with private plate can still fool many to look far younger than a 10 year old car!

Enough said :-)

Standing start is hard to get the power down.

Rolling start would see different results.

You are more or less paying for a CLS55 in terms of running costs with a CLK - so why not go for the best option.

Yes cls55 over clk55 for me too.

Better car regardless of speed.

LOL not such a big difference now.

I've had both, a 55 n/a and 2 55k's. Both are great engines but the power in a 55k is much more brutal than the n/a.

Also having owned a clk I'm not really a fan of them. Just don't do it for me and a cls is in a different league.

John is spot on. I think there is about a second difference up to 60mph between a CLS and a CLK, but as the speed increases, so the CLS pulls further away.

It makes no difference me which car the OP chooses, but I stand by my claim the supercharged CLS is better.............. as well as quicker.:D

That is a cracking SLK you have there. As well as a superb colour, the headers make it sound great too. Oh, and its pretty quick :D

I think the SLK is far lighter than a SL ? Traction is the big problem with the s/c engine.

Thanks mate, yes the SLK is allot lighter and it's an easy car to launch due to the 52/48 weight distribution.

It was standard when I took it to Santa pod, I'm hoping next yr I'll drop into the low 12s with the kleemann headers and Eurocharged map. :)

I do agree with you guys, if it was between the clk55 and the cls55 then only one for me and that's the CLS!

Weight distribution for the CLS55 is also quoted as 52 / 48 %

Nice, is it an easy car to launch off the line?

The slk55 is one of the easiest cars to launch I've ever driven, when it hooks up not allot can stay with it.

Maybe it's because of the short wheel base?

If it is anything like the E, then it isn't such an easy car to launch (although I know mine is not standard - it was a lot easier to launch when it was 510!).

I've mastered the art of a good take off as this clip demonstrates but not easy - loses traction on the pants surface at North Weald but not on regular tarmac so much!

It's not that easy to launch with out all hell breaking loose if you stamp on it , I usually Feed the power in then give it some once Rolling In the dry the t/c will flicker upto 50/60 mph dependant on the road ,it's just a beast of an engine ;)good tyres are essential too .
