CLS 55 Next year!

It's not that easy to launch with out all hell breaking loose if you stamp on it , I usually Feed the power in then give it some once Rolling In the dry the t/c will flicker upto 50/60 mph dependant on the road ,it's just a beast of an engine ;)good tyres are essential too .

On the test drive the previous owner of my car had the traction control light flickering at 85mph on a dry road. I think that sold him the car to me:D

Can't plant it as it will punish you. I normally get it going first and then give it WOT and pedal it if required.

^ Took care of the C63 as well I notice 555. Was it a stock 63?

Yeah, was standard C63. He wanted to see how well it did against an E55 but I did warn him it wasn't standard!

Not much in it though even then...

I had the 208 CLK55 and now have a CLS55 (nearly six years).

CLK55 is not a patch on CLS55 .. one is an amateur boxer, the other professional.

CLK55 is still a quick enough car IMHO, the fact that it's smaller and lighter than the '55Ks helps a bit when pushing on. There's always the CLK DTM (with the Kompressor V8 :D )

But yes, obviously the 55K is more brutal in a drag race

I wouldn't discount any of them until you've driven them, all decent cars for different pockets and requirements. CLK55 is obviously cheaper to run than the 211/219 with its airmatic, SBC, more electronics and extra bits to go wrong (charge cooler pump, S/C belt drive and pulleys etc) :thumb:

Not sure on the exact timings but I'd be surprised if there was more than a second difference 0-60, or over the 1/4 mile? 30-100+ the 55K feels notably stronger but aside from Vmax type events not sure how much of a difference they'd make in U.K. road driving (?) :dk:

Well only about £30k ;)

Well obviously it is, but I really don't agree that its almost the same running costs. it really isn't.

CLS55 will cost more no doubt, allot more things to go wrong, the CLK55 will be cheaper to run, it's nice and simple.

Cls55 was over 80k new the 209 clk55 was around 50k..

If your good with the spanners or willing to try and do some diy on the car running costs
are minimal imo .

Great responses here, keep em coming.

Im terrible with a spanner but don't mind spending on the car, it deserves it :) does the CLK sound better than the CLS?

Also, how do you guys fair against E92 M3s?

I owned an E90 M3 a year or so ago.

Best way I can describe the differences is; the M3 is like a ballerina, the CLS 55 a boxer. One tries to be pinpoint accurate, the other wants to punch you in the face whenever you try and take him on.

The CLS55 is such an icon now too, I'd only put the Maserati above it in those stakes, whereas the M3 seems to be a bit unloved and, quite amazingly when you look back now, the C63's release picked a fight and won.

True, with the CLK, will headers and freeing up the exhaust have decent effect?

Has anyone on here put a prior design bodykit on the CLK55?

I think it's against the law to add a body kit
to an AMG !!
Just get a 55k and you won't need anything
Else ;)

Getting a 55k is only the beginning for quite of few on here and that's the beauty of the 55k cars: you can enjoy them standard as well as you can take them further. My E55 wears Brabus kit, another member on here has Prior on theirs. Some add splitters, diffusers, different wheels, lower suspension. The list is endless :o;)

Yes splitters and diffusers can look ok
But adding another tuners body kit to
an Amg doesn't make any sense to me
but each to there own and all that , I'm
getting to old and less is more for me ;)

Brabus styling for W211 couldn't be anymore "less" as it's more subtle than the original AMG, which is why I like it better. No diffusers or splitters on mine - just not the fan of those. Clean and minimalist on the outside is how I like it. :thumb:

Have I missed the photos? Sounds amazing Alex!

Haven't driven any of the na 55's, but can recommend the S/C 55's. Loads of instant Torque, very addictive as
standard plus loads of tuning potential if you want it. Given the time over, i would have probably bought a Cls55. Very cool & Unique looking car.
