Hi, I have a 2008 CLS (2009 spec) with the NTG 2.5 but the standard speakers, I think it sounds alright really, better than the Bose in my previous 350Z, however am interested as to whether its a direct swap and whether it is worthwhile ?

I believe it's a non-trivial upgrade, and very expensive for the amplification., but I'm sure someone here can give details.

Only just got my 2009 CLS Grand. Haven't noticed any speakers on the rear shelf, which is a pity, as that boot would generate some serious bass!

Adam.

Its good, I have HK in mine, however for the expense of a retro-fit you would be able to buy far better aftermarket speakers.

You shouldnt just change the speakers for HK ones. the HK ones are deisgned to be run by the HK amplifier. Plus HK adds speakers to a standard setup so unless you want to retrofit the full HK system I wouldnt just change the speakers.

You can achieve far better results by simply changing the existing speakers you have for a decent set of Morels or focals with some well placed dynamat. Adding an aftermarket amp is also possible all for a lot less than retrofitting full HK.

I have done a few cars now with full HK and its a massive job. The last one I did was my A150. I stripped the entire interior out and dynamatted the whole car! I fitted all the HK fibre, amp and speakers except I used Morel virtus front door speakers instead. It sounds amazing as although HK speakers are okay they are very porr compared to quality Morel or focal components.

I have a Alpine sat nav. I bought an Alpine amplifier and Alpine speakers to go on the back shelf, these were fitted together with the standard MB speakers and the result is really good. Not to expensive but well worth doing.

Sounds like a pain to do !

To be honest I find the existing system pretty good, would be interested to try them side by side.
