CLS problem

MB didn't get it right? Speak for yourself, my engine which is the same as yours in the same car has been nothing other than faultless.
Congrats!! I'm happy for you! :)
Seems a lot are not though.....

I'm on to my second V6 E320 CDi and can honestly say that not once have either of them ever given me a moments doubt.

You should of took Simon_M's advice and bought a C63.....

^Hope you haven't tempted fate:wallbash:
Same here  haha.

I've not found a great deal when looking for common problems with the CLS. You do have to question the history of how a 50k diesel engine (which typically do big miles mostly trouble free) has such a major problem at such a low milage.

I suppose it's all down to the luck of the draw, some people that are driving various mb's on here with known faults(cl's-abs/struts etc,2009ish c/e class 220/250/320 cdi injector failure)don't experience any problems whilst others seem to get them all:crazy:

And that's exactly the reason I'm uncomfortable with the car now. But, we'll see how it goes..

A 212 E220cdi coupe is sounding nice right now...

Really sorry to hear of your woes
It happens to us all
it may not be terminal
surely your huge portion of enthusiasm on delivery will not be dampened by this

good luck with the repair

keep calm and carry on CLSing

Nicely said Mika, thanks! :)

Actually, I must have been very lucky with cars, because I've never had an engine problem before, not even with all the Alfas I've had! Guess it had to come sometime! Shame it was on the car I'd looked forward to for so long! :dk::wallbash:

:D Careful, we don't want to open a can.... :)

They know I'm only kidding. I hope. :D

I think the difference between myself and others is that I get in my car and drive it, service & parts when it needs it and that's it. I always find it amazing how many people have these 'health checks' and come out a quivering wreck, this ruining the enjoyment of the car.

Take it back to the dealer, get it fixed and then just drive the bloody thing. You'll look at this thread in a years time and wonder why you were worrying. :thumb:

I love the positivity there sweetpea!!! You're right, of course! :)

How long for the inlet port shut-off motor then?

Seriously, that's terrible. Just what you didn't need having waited for so long, and so soon after taking ownership too. I'm gutted for you. What a way to take the shine off things!

Have a word with Crockers. He seems to have gone through all the 'classic' V6 CDI problems (some more than once unfortunately), including the front crank bearing failure.

Failing that, *** seems to have encountered most of them too... As Sweetpea says, once it's fixed you can get back to enjoying it again. Hopefully then you can forget about this as it will be well behind you!

cars go wrong ..

at least you are not out of pocket.

If you had bought a C63 as Sweetpea commented
you would have probably bought 3 to 4 tanks of premium fuel and taken a couple of mm of your rear tyres by now ...doubt you would get that under warranty:D

...not to mention the roadtax and massive insurance premium!
There's the reason I couldn't buy a C63, no matter how much I might enjoy it! :D

Ceartainly this is making me think twice about changing...

The car I currently have has been very relaiable over its life and the talk of these V6 ones and the issues is not good reading.

Makes you almost have to buy one with a Merc warranty or at least a good third party one.

Then I consider the millage I do and think....actually wait a minuite does a petrol actual make more sence... :( I guess a CLS350 or E350 petrol would do over 30 on a run?

I Had a ML350 and that could do 28mpg on a run if doing 70mph..

As already mentioned at least its getting fixed at no cost and then its how they deal with the fix.. It must really hamper that 'new' car feel though which is sad :(

After my experiences with the V6 I'm not sure that I would go there again. Normally it looks worse than it is because people who are having problems look for solutions.

But in the V6 case, it seems to be happening to members who were not looking for solutions....

ETA Better caught now!

It possibly will, but so long as it stays ok after the repair and nothing else goes pear shaped I'll get over it and keep the car for a year or two.
But, I can't stand unreliable cars and if it lets me down again, after this, it will go for sure.
And, I would think twice about another MB. I've had four and so far two have been unreliable. Actually, only my 211 was totally reliable and that's why I chanced another.... :(
The MB gloss is wearing thin...

Edit: I've been thinking about my Nissan Sylphy in Russia. 2001 car, Japanese import, 2.0 petrol, CVT gearbox and it lives a very strange life. 3 or 4 months of the year it gets hammered on some of the worlds worst condition roads and then spends 9 months in a garage, untouched. NEVER has it let me down in the 4 years I've had it (so far!). Makes you think doesn't it......Could ANY MB cope with that?

Best car I had was an MX5 Mk1, drove it like a stole it all the time, regular trips to Europe and the cols.

Nothing failed, it never let me down and it didn't rust...

Plug and play cars :)

Plug and play cars :)
Maybe the best kind these days with the cost of repairs so high...

Time to take stock I reckon. All I need is a safe, reasonably stylish, reliable means of transport that won't cost the earth to maintain.....
