C63 AMG Sold, Now W211 E55
Well after looking at a few CLA's and an E class's the decision was made when Mercedes offered my Dad 10k off a new CLS Shooting Brake 350 cdi through some VIP event they were hosting.

I have to say what a good looking large car it is! And it driving it is like riding a wave of whipped cream!! Well untill on the way home from the petrol station .......

With me remaining in drivers seat my dad got out to fill it up and pay, we left the station and started on home......

I noticed a slight chug followed by another, I looked over at my dad and asked the dredded question. ....... youve not put petrol in it have you??

What was then followed by a few @#¥₩s!!! The engine was turned off and we called mercedes ..... two weeks later and £7300 lighter the car is back.

We are due to go to the south of france this friday my family in my C63 and my parents and sister in the CLS350, I think I have won the mpg stakes as I should be able to get to and from France on £7300 worth of costs :)

So with all the "what fuel to buy" threads going around, I can tell you ...... DONT put petrol no matter where you got it from, in your Diesel :(

I feel his pain...I did it once before in the works landrover...filled it with £100 of petrol but thankfully realised my mistake before I switched it on...,didnt deter from my extremely red face when the recovery came to collect me!!

Yes it wasnt a good day, apparently Mercedes I formed us the reason it cost so much was that they foubd metallic shards in the fuel tank from the fuel pump.

The kick in the nuts was he changed his Caynne Turbo for the CLS to save on rising petrol costs....... he could have run the Porsche for a year now for that money :(

Oh well im sure it wont happen again.

£7300 - Damn !!!!

Reminds me of a story when a company mistakenly filled their bunker up with Petrol...

Sometimes insurance companies will cover misfueling.

Wonder what would have happened if they had just called out one of the specialists..

My diesel is covered in red notices saying DIESEL arent the new ones?

They are.
I thought there were some plans to make uniquely shaped nozzles (globally), where diesel would not fit petrol filler and vice versa.

My cousin recently took delivery of a new E220CDI Coupé, and did the exact same thing within the first week of ownership. Having driven a couple of miles, he was recovered to MB Brooklands, given a courtesy car and a repair bill of £650 approx. a few days later.

Do you think they were offsetting your dad's discount?!

Just goes to show, a modern diesel is as refined as a petrol.

Quite how people do this is a mystery to me.

Lovely car though and interesting to see how much discount was obtained. Which dealer?

Sorry long time tk reply,

The dealer was Warrington Mercedes. It was a vip event they were hosting. Not sure on the details as the invite was for me that i passed on to my Dad as I had no intentions of exchanging mine.

The deals were made on what cars were on site.

People just need to pay attention and be more aware.

For 2012-2014, I have switched from a petrol car to a diesel car (some times using my father's petrol car as well), and now I am back on petrol car... No problems so far.

Nice CLS :D

£7300!! To drain out the fuel!! I am sure Mercedes would have told you they had to replace injectors or whatever, but this is a joke!!

I did that once in my Audi A8 4.0TDI many years ago, filled it up from empty, set off from M62 J17, engine suddenly cut out just before J23, no hesitation, just cut off!

Amazingly, I must have done about 20-25 miles at motorway speed before it cut itself off.

Towed it to the garage, they pumped all my petrol out from the fuel filter.
they told me most modern diesel would have had a safety sensor, it cut engine out before the wrong fuel gets to the engine. And I honestly have had no issues afterwards.

Seriously? Why did you call Mercedes?

The car is under warranty and if they repair it they have to replace everything that is effected, otherwise what happens if something else fails in 12 months?

You should have called one of the specialist who come and drain it and put diesel back in.

£300 tops.

Hate to say this, but putting petrol in the car was not the dumbest move of the day! Sorry. :(
