hi all

have a 2006 cls 320cdi (obv auto)

on start up its fine selecting reverse

once the lever down to D or N it wont move back into R (and therefore P), just refuses to go up and obv I dont want to use excessive force. However once in a blue moon it works fine! engine temp has no bearing on weather it decides to work or not. just a nightmare as i was getting into a restoration project and this happens!

The only way i can get it to reverse is it turn the engine off, move the shifter into P and then start the car and select reverse

now you can imagine trying to do a 3 point turn with such a problem

anyone shed any light on this as this a new issue to me! o its done 110k with fmbsh.

also its got no warranty not that they would of helped!

thanks in advance for any help

Might be related to a duff brake lamp switch above the brake pedal. Cheap from MB, might be worth a shout?

many thanks for the reply

worth a shot at that price, will try it out

thanks mate

It could be a faulty selector module. It needs a Star to confirm.

resolved!!!!!!

thanks guys

duff brake lamp switch

changed it, ten mins job, £10 odd quid

jobs a good un

whitenemesis you are the man

thanks all, be wary of these little switches!

Sorry to appear a dummy but trying to learn quickly:rolleyes: but how does a duff brake light switch prevent selection of reverse?

Probably because the car will think it is still moving?

yeh i think the sensor seems to make the car think there is load on the engine hence the refusal to select gear

i maybe wrong, just a theory

Hi guys I have the same issue i have replaced the brake switch but still have the issue any other suggestions
Get it plugged in and retrieve fault codes and post on here. Out of curiosity; when was the last time the transmission was serviced? I know the valve body and conductor plate sometimes go on these.
