In my CLS 320 (W219) the gear lever has a "Engine Start Stop" button, which when pressed does absolutely nothing.

How is this feature supposed to work?

Thanks in advance.

You use it to turn on or off the start/stop functionality, then when up to temperature and at lights, etc the engine should stop and start on it's own.

Dont you need your foot on the Brake pedal for it to work?

Yes foot on brake and key not in ignition, selector in park obviously. Providing your car actually has keyless go fitted and someone's not just fitted a shifter or something silly!

I made that mistake when I first got my E55 with Keyless Go.

Does the datacard for your car show Option 889, Keyless Go?

I've the same button on mine. It only works when you have the key in the car, but not in the ignition. If you press the button without your foot on the brake pedal it will light up the ignition, but not start the car. With brake pedal depressed it will start the car.
