I've found this code reader up for sale. Is this the kind of thing i need to read the codes on my 1994 cl600? There doesn't seem to be a screen so do I count the flashes or what? If it is the right tool, how much should i be offering for it? regards, Stewart

I would suspect this will be absolutely no use to you on your Cl600.

You should seek out a friendly specialist with a Star diagnostics machine and the ability to use it. (and it does need experience).

Anything less on that V12 beast and you'll be looking for a needle in a haystack.

Where in France are you? If you're in the north, what about limping it onto a ferry bound for Portsmouth for a visit to Olly if there are no local specialists.

Hi, I'm in the Dordogne, 400+ miles south of le harve. I'm keen to fix what i can myself before spending money at a specialist if i have to go down that route. i see the code reader as a tool to point me towards what needs checked, not a means in itself. I figure if i take my time and do it bit at a time, with help and support from people who know who have been there already, i ought to be able to get there. At the end of the day, it's only a machine.

I managed to drive it home withought incident and have spent a morning familiarising myself with the buttons and switches and making lists of faults.

i removed the relay behind the fusebox. the wipers no longer come on. the l/h indicator still flashes constantly though and the hrw is on all the time. is there another relay for these?

On start-up from cold the engine has a pulsed idle between 0 and 1000rpm. It settles down to tickover at around 700rpm once a little warmer.

There are no warning lights on the dash. SRS stays lit for a few moments then goes out. all seems normal.

Still no performance though much better than it was when i first drove it.

central locking does not work from the key or from the dashboard. yellow and green lights on the door illuminate and the doors lock and unlock individually with the key.

Sqeaking noise from the back over bumps. might go away through time. it's not moved for 18 months.

other than that odd bits and pieces not quite right but nothing some re-assembly, wd40 or some glue won't cure. Any thoughts, hints, cures? don't be shy.

Of course i am on the hunt for a friendly specialist in this area. the french love their mercedes and you see plenty of old ones still in dailly use over here. my french is ok. however I've managed to maintain and repair where neccesary all my cars up to now, including a p38 range rover which was the most unreliable vehichle with the most bloody minded electronics yet devised. having sorted that car out i fully intend to become master of this one.

I'll drive it over to see olly once it runs well enough to get through a french mot. i therefore need to fix the wipers, indicators, and the lack of oomph. it might be simply clearing the old faults will sort out some of it temporarily, but it needs to be up for the trip before i'd consider making it.

The item for sale looks like an original (or knock off) MB LED flash code reader, but offering no more than the Arthur Dalton DIY one on BenzWorld. I've made one to his scheme for coppers and they're great on M104s and have some use on OM 605 and 6s, but quite limited. Best left alone on your complex beast. Was the car for sale on leboncoin.fr??

hi, the scanner is for sale on leboncoin. 69e they're asking. i want a better one with a screen to read off the codes and the ability to clear them. a multi-purpose one that will read and clear codes on other cars too would be nice too.

car was sourced privately. a chance conversation that led to not only this one but a '91 w124 250d in good condition with full ct. still not convinced if it was good or bad luck though. time will tell. regards, stewart
