This is a technical question for those Specialist traders. I am getting annoyed with Airmatic on my car and recently heard few people running BC coilovers on their CLS's and found them to be very good.

Has any of the Independent specialists tried this conversion? What does it need and how much work is involved. I know a CLS owner from here who originally went for aftermarket air suspension setup but then now switched to Coilovers due to airbags being temperamental.

Any help, appreciated.

Thanks

OOPS wrong section, can someone move to Suspension section please?

depends what you use the car for - everyday use the Air suspension is great esp the raise and lower function - saved the bottom of the car and the bumper many times!

Many e-class owners have done this in the US and there is a few in the UK who have done this, speak to Eurocharged or MSL - both have done coilover conversions

Thanks Alps....I know 1 or 2 CLS owners who have done it and loved the way car drives, My car has 1 or 2 bags on their way out and front is also knocking so it would be upward of 2K easy just on parts so i am thinking perhaps to just swap to COILover which will give me much firmer ride and atleast no errors poping up anytime soon re: airmatic.

P.S - can you pm me where I can order those Metal door pins please?

no probs Amo

Parts you can get arnott stuff a lot cheaper.

the coilover conversion will cost you double that easy

will have a look tonight for a link - imitation stuff gets taken off ebay pretty quick

Thanks Alps, I am going to book into Terrys and find out exactly the extent of damage to my setup...hopefully its not the bags?!?!

But yea Arnott stuff is £900 for rear bags alone and then whatever it would be for front setup.

Coilover kit cost me £715, got a little discount due to a sale they had on (company called only charged dubs) and the only other thing you need to fit them is the rear lower arms from a model with springs as standard. I managed to buy a second hand rear subframe with the arms off an e320 from eBay for £60 delivered. Fitted with a good friend of mine who is a mechanic for some beer money.

I wish I never touched the aftermarket air suspension although I do love my cars low haha!

Think the coil overs where supposed to be around £800rrp

I had to replace the rear bags twice in 4 months so opted for the rear Arnotts.
Purchased from ebay Germany at a cost of £600 incl next day delivery.
In 20k miles over 16 months no issues and set up is the same as OEM.

I've also been thinking about coilovers but don't do a great deal of track runs and the Arnotts keep the car grounded very well and corner excellent :thumb:

Here In Portugal theres a member that has a S211 that has only the rear air suspention that is used for leveling the back height of the wagon.

He changed it for the coil conversion kit, and he is preatty happy with it, has a better ride two.

The only problem I think that its only available for the avantgarde wagon

2003 MERCEDES-BENZ E-CLASS WAGON (W/REAR LEVELING ONLY) ARNOTT REAR COIL CONVERSION KIT W/EBM | Pro4matic

Correct. No coil conversion for the Elegance model of E class wagon
