Cold Start Engine jerk and switch off

He's going on vacation, back on 2nd Dec -but the price he gave is perfect (nearly 80 pound difference). He sounded genuine as well. If I can't get anyone else to do the job quickly, I will get him to do it.

Thanks Keith.

Make sure that quote includes draining the torque convertor also to get all the fluid changed- some garages quote for gearbox fluid and filter change only which is a lower cost option. Around £180-190 is pretty much par for the course from a specialist. -- the proper fluid is expensive.

Quick update:

had ATF serviced by Terry, problem still there. Now i am quite desperate as to whats next. Any ideas please?

Does it stall when cold when you put it in drive?

This post would suggest you have some idea what the problem is? or are you just wanting clarification?.

I had no idea up until last night what is ACTUALLY wrong, neither did anyone suggested so I did a google research and found the exact same symptoms and possible fix.

An automatic transmission slips only when cold. As the vehicle warms to operating temperature, the transmission's performance returns to normal. Hardened seals allow fluid past when cold, but as the vehicle warms the seals begin to function again. This transmission will need an overhaul to fix this problem.

This is exactly what is happening in my situation. gear shifting is absolutely normal n noiseless once engine is warmed up. Infact, Terry himself said there is no problem with gear shifting etc so I am assuming its the hardened seals.

I don't think I can go down transmission overhaul route as it costs thousands. There is a product called Lucas transmission fix and I am thinking of giving it a go before putting the car to auction. I am assuming no-one has ever had this problem otherwise somebody would've suggested this during atf change? Now I have to drain some oil n add 750ml of Lucas atf fix and see if this fixes the issue!

I also own an old Isuzu Trooper 3.1 Auto and when I bought it the Autobox slipped when cold and was very rough changing gears.

I bought some Lucas Transmission Fix off Fleabay and changed the oil and filter and put this stuff in it.

Ive now covered 25,000mls since without any problem it was instantly smoother after doing this and stopped slipping, so I would say go for it.;)
others may disagree but it worked for me.

Engine Stalling

My 2011 C250 Cdi Auto starts well in warm weather but when really cold engaging drive stalls the engine in the same way as yours. Similarly the expensive dealer diagnostic examination reveals no fault codes but recommends a blank cheque further investigation which I have declined. I suspect the problem relates to cold starting settings of engine speed and fuelling. At 900 rpm there isn't a problem but at 1000 rpm or above there is. My car mileage is just short of 40,000 miles.

I am concerned that MB dealers no longer seem to have the trained and experienced staff to undertake problem analysis depending entirely on electronics and the technical expertise at Milton Keynes.

As a new member of the Club I have put my reply in the wrong place. However i have had the same thing happening to my 2011 C250 Cdi.The ambient temperature makes a difference since the engine stalling happens only when the ambient temperature is low say below 10C. Like you after a little idling everything is fine. Like you I have had an expensive diagnostic cheque which revealed no fault codes and like you I am refusing to give the dealer a blank cheque to undertake further investigation. My instinct says its a an adjustment to cold start idling an fuelling that is required. My car has only done 40000miles

Hi mj1857,
I am having same problem here with my merc c class blueefficiency elegance 2010 2.1 cdi an automatic transmission. Is your issue solved after using lucas atf fix ? Desperate for advise pls

I experienced this a couple of times on the Viano, it was when it was cold and put in gear with turning the steering at the same time, the issue was related to a blowing injector seal so power was down on idle especially when cold, 4 new injectors and the issue has not re appeared, so when the engine first starts it will rev a bit harder before dropping to idle and I was putting it in gear at this point and starting to pull away with a little lock on the steering and this was enough load to stall the motor.

Hi Demir1857,
I know this was some time ago. But I have the same issue in my Mercedes C.. did you find a solution?
Thanks
