Colours for the new E.

The best-selling colour for any car from any manufacturer is whichever colour the manufacturer chooses for the press releases and advertising. I.e. how many orange Focus STs are there around? How many silver Vectras?

Now the new E-Class has been put out in the marketing in the Cuprite Brown, rest assured this is the colour most punters will opt for. Not that I'm having a go - far from it - for once I'm in agreement with the marketing people - the brown really suits the car!

As it happens, this morning is the first time I have seen a W212 out on the road. I saw the new XJ out on the M1 at the weekend (on proper number plates), and that's not available until 2010, yet today is the first time I have clapped eyes on a real live W212.

And do you know what? It looked crap. I was really disappointed. It looked like an AvantGarde version too judging by the running lights. I went to the local stealer's launch and thought the demonstrators looked really smart, however they were all in dark metallics - mostly black (no brown either), but this one today was in best Repmobile Silver and looked rubbish.

There, I said it.

Off-topic bit: By the way, I thought that XJ looked absolutely fantastic. It was in black on an '09 plate and going like **** off a shovel down the M1. Looked the dogs b*ll*cks. Talk about a radical departure from the previous model!

One more thing, the MBUK site is very poor, cannot find the configure your next car option. Find a retailer brought up a map but no link to their website and a poor layout IMHO.

Don't suppose you've seen it since on your travels have you? The blasted thing has vanished afaict?

That was exactly my response to the silver SE that I saw in Italy recently. I wonder if this will be the first MB for years that in the UK market doesn't sell mostly in silver?

Looks like the Cuprite brown is quite a favourable colour choice, apart from black or white.

Cuprite brown was my favourite colour choice, but only having seen it in the Mercedes brochure (all cars in brochures look nice for obvious reasons) I wondered how it looked in real life.

Next step is to see how keen the Mercedes the dealer is to sell cars. If not it could be a BMW.

Oh! Wait a minute, I've already made that mistake before. As for the BMW dealership I dealt with, I swore they would never get another penny out of me so that make is out.

Audi? Had two A4's and really liked them, having four wheel drive in a saloon or estate is a bonus in winter. Servicing locally by an Audi approved garage is another plus for Audi.

So the Mercedes dealership has some competition if they want my business.

Thanks for the input on colours everybody.

John

Apart from paint colour have you decided which engine, and other model specifications you'd go for? Have you looked into a PX figure, or selling your car on.

350CDi Avantgarde Steve. Have asked for a PX figure but have not heard anything yet (I sent a letter so they would have to write back with their offer, and I would have it in black and white (I do not trust car salesmen)), I've never sold a car privately as there always seems to be a gap between selling and waiting for the new car to be built.

More importantly, how was the interview? Did it go well do you think?

Very nice model and a good idea to get the offer in writing, although what they'd probably do is hammer you for little niggles.

Have you tried any online brokers, other dealer groups. I know JRW Aberdeen is the closest dealer and I'd use the distance/travel expense issue as one to either secure a discount on the 212 or a better PX value for your car. Remember, you are driving a very nice car at the moment and stress there is "no hurry" to change it and this may make the salesman more keen to cut you a good deal.

The interview was quite brief and I felt I gave the two interviers a good range of examples for the "compentacy" part of it all. I prefer a more biographical approach where you talk through your CV and try and make it relevant for the role applied for. After being interviewed I now do really want the job, but the good thing is I was told they aren't "hanging about" and want to start the role ASAP so I should know early next week. Fingers crossed. :thumb:

it has the panoramic roof :bannana:

I've seen 2x coupes in a metallic red and a metallic bronze and both were gorgeous - the red just edged it though which is odd as i normally don;t like red! More of a rich cherry red...

EDIT - just saw SMilllon's pic - exactly! It's really vibrant in the flesh...errrr metal
