Comand 2.0 Multimedia interface

If you have a TV tuner then there are video/sound inputs on that. If you dont have a TV tuner then you need a multimedia interface which plugs into the rear of the comand unit. This will also give a video input.

The auxilliary input connector often found in the glove box is for audio only. It has just four connections.

some post 2004 comand units will play DVD's others not. In fact, although many early W203 Comand APS units have a video input (for reversing camera) they still wont play DVD's. the newer A203 and A169 comand units dont have the video input on them anymore:( Shame, I quite fancied a reversing camera on my A class:bannana:

Apart from my blunder over the opic part then I have been correct in what I have said and HughJarse is correct in saying that his device will work

I do just add that if you have the MB tuner fitted, there are 2 video inputs on that, and they take a normal PAL input direct from any device

NO youre completley WRONG..
It does work as I have it working! I push the TV button and I can view vidoe and audio form the input box.
I will put a video on here tonight when I get home. I have a COMAND 2.0 CD based DX and it works perfect, in fact the picture quality is superb.

Hugh,

One further question before I order one of these ..... did you need to get the configuration changed in STAR or did it just work?

Thanks,

Dave

Please do not be upset, I do believe you. I use such things when doing installs from NTSC to PAL and changing the scan rate on projectors.

NO no no not upset just funny that it seemed what i have done was being ignored; As Alfie, I am sure will concur, Im not a stranger to my comand unit and have "fiddled with it" quite a bit.

As for Star setup, I honestly dont know. I didnt; that does not mean it may not need doing. My local indie & I fiddled with inards of my comand one day and we may have switched it on!

Anyway heres what I have done and it may be good for a mod to stick this somewhere. I have opened up a google mail account for us. This will give us storeage space for things such as videos. I have posted the first video which is of my comand system and Archos. Its 9mb so not to big.

I can look this up later tonight, I know that digi TV has to be turned on by STAR, but I do not think that the analogue does.

I will look up as I said the retro fit tuner and see what it says, reading the blurb on this device it does not say so.

I will post back later, its certainly I good device, I may get one to play with and I do give my thanks to Hugh for posting this up

:

I can concur as you have done an install for us which was to a very high standard and we had one very pleased customer in the north!

Hugh........You have a great set up...well done.
Video is excellent and answers many questions.

What do you have in ashtray?

Thanx for an excellent post and information on your mod.

Parrot ck 3100 bluetooth phone handsfree.
Nice place to put it as you close the ashtray and its gone!

:bannana: Excellent Thank you Hugh.

I shall now go away and convince myself I need one and fit it!:) :)

Steve

Well, I am convinced! I have just ordered one. This will also do away with my need for a CD changer as I will just play my 80GB video iPod (about 20GB of music, 40GB of videos / movies and another 10GB of podcasts and games) through the device. If I can't get it to work then I am sure that I'll have no problem selling it on!

Once again many thanks to Hugh for an EXCELLENT thread!

I can't wait!

Dave

Hi I'm a new Mercedes owner I have a 2001 320 S class with a square screen CD Comand. I've watched Hugh's video, the Comand although square screen doesnt look the same. Any idea which model of Comand is likely to be fitted in my car, and whether this will work with it?

Thank you.

Mine came through the post today. Will have a go at the weekend if time permits.

Hugh - Did your unit have AUDI RNS-E printed on the label? Hope I haven't been sent the wrong one :o

Cheers,
Steve

No mine had Mercedes comand 2.0.
Email them, they tend to answer same day and speak perfect english.
Mine looked identical to the one on the website, unit cables and plug etc.

Now is your chance to swap the car for a decent make Steve

My unit arrived a week or so ago but I didn't have the car at the time so today being a nice sunny day, I decided to try to fit this device ..... guess what ... it works!

I too had to move a wire into pin 6 of the C2 connector for the speed signal. I connected the two "C" plugs. Connected the black cable to earth (ground) and the red and green to +12v. I connected my video iPod to the unit (and I had already checked that the iPod was putting out composite video). Switched the COMAND on. Pushed the TV button and got a blank screen.

I switched the iPod on was able to watch my videos. I am also able to play iPod audio through the same interface thereby negating the need for a further aux connection.

Great device! Thanks to Hugh for recommending it!

Dave

Note: I have a problem at first which proved to be a pushed back pin in the C2 connector. Pushed it home and hey presto!

Three wires 2 plugs.

Positive

& green to positive "IF" you want to enable tv in motion.
plug in two plugs ( I did have to take speed pulse pins out of old cable and push them into new one - this took less than minute)

IN fact it took me about 20 - 30 minutes ( i have taken my comand out a few times)

The video quality from my little archos PVR is very good.

I personally think its better than a dension Ipod connector as I have my Archos pvr full of mp3's including album videos work etc and I can play them thru comnd

Hmmm, I retro fitted a COMAND into my CLK and whilst I don't remember the detail, I'm sure I already have the 'C' plugs with several wires in them (going to CD changer, for example).
I guess I'll have to fiddle about and move wires from one plug housing to another, but your saying there's only three wires connecting to the interface??

Col
