Ill post pics tomorrow, I moved it today; I had the unit inside the dash to the left of the comand unit and had trailing cables (3 of) coming out in the glove box, where the aux cable would go.
However I found out that the unit has contrast, brightness, colour switches etc on it. So I move the unit into the glove with the cables passsing through where the aux socket goes.
The cables are about 50 - 60 cm long. YOu could easily extend them though to the glovebox for power.
Alternately I could piggy back the the power that goes into the unit.
I did take pictures this time and will put them up tomorrow, hopefully with a how to remove your comand as well for those that havent done it before. (in a w203 that is )
Then this is only suitable for Command with the vid aux and not the earlier versions with sound only. OK you can plug into the TV input on the rear, but this needs activating on STAR
I am getting a little confused here! I have a COMAND 2.0 (CD based) in my MY2001 W163. This has a TV button on the front. Will this device allow me to play my video iPod through the COMAND (sound and vision)?
Thanks!
Dave
The Command 2 does not have an AUX video input, only sound.
Though you have the TV button and inputs on the rear for the TV tuner these can only be activated on STAR and this tuner is recognised and coupled via fiber optics.
There are a further 2 inputs on the tuner (analogue) if you have one
Thanks Malcolm. Just to be clear, are you saying that his device will not work because there is no video input?
Sorry if I appear to be dense here but I just need a definitive answer as all the evidence seems to indicate that it will work but I don't want to spend £100 if it won't!
Thanks, Dave
It's a lot more money but I found a device called MER01DVB listed on various ICE-shop websites with prices from £550 to £700 which claims to be a digital freeview TV tuner and AV interface which emulates the functions of the factory TV tuner.
Before buying I would want to see it functioning but I suspect that you'll never get to see one installed (you know how these things work).
For comand 2.0 you need to fit either the factory TV tuner or an AV interface and you can input video to comand. I don't know how much more you need to know. AFAIK the tv tuner/av interface does not use fibre. What I do know is that My Command does not have a video input, only sound and that the wide screen that came out in 2003-4 does have a video input.
I think if you ask Alfie you will get the same answer, but do ask him, as he knows more about these things than me.
The audio input is a normal 0db 775mv input and nothing can convert that to video

So it's just copper then?this being the case all you need to do is to get the TV input activated on STAR that is fine for any line out video input

NO youre completley WRONG..
It does work as I have it working! I push the TV button and I can view vidoe and audio form the input box.
I will put a video on here tonight when I get home. I have a COMAND 2.0 CD based DX and it works perfect, in fact the picture quality is superb.
I see youve realised different, I am however eager to know whether you thought I was making the whole thing up or completely mad?
