Comand 2 and multimedia

Hello, i hope someone can help me cause i'm in trouble.
I have succesfully retrofitted my 2002 ML with a comand 2 coming from an E class, using this can bus simulator:

Now i'm try to let this kit working (Dietz multimedia interface and dvd player):

At the moment the problem is that i can use the multimedia only plugging the original A connector and not thru the one coming from the can bus simulator (in this case the comand say "No Tv").
At the same time, using the original A connector and not the can bus simulator the multimedia is ok but the navigation is not able to update the position.
I think is something related to the GAL connection but i'm not sure.
I went last week in my Mercedes Dealer that used the Star diagnostic saying that all is OK and i don't need the can bus simulator.........
Please help me !

Firstly you bought the wrong COMAND. Perhaps you were mislead byt the seller, I dont know. The best (correct actually) unit for your car is the A163 820 36 89 unit. Its designed for your car and is plug and play. Fitting a multimedia adpater to the correct comand is dead easy and works. However, the fact that you are having trouble with yours comes as no surprise.

The best thing for you to try is to ensure that the speed pulse on A pin1 is bridged up to the C2 pin 6 slot. You should then find the speed pulse correctly updates your position. If not, sell the comand and the CANBUS adapter and buy the right one.

For anyone else who is thinking of fitting comand into a W163 ML, BUY AN A163 820 36 89 COMAND. It works, is designed for your car and does not require any Canbus simulator.

i have removed and re-done, all is working fine now !
Probably there was a fault in the speed pin (due to my wrong unplug from the previous connector in C2 and plug in the new one).
Now both navigation and multimedia are fine !!
Naturally it is better to buy the right comand2 but in Germany the e-bay seller was full of E-Class Comand2 and not M-Class.
The few M-Class i have found in E-bay were from England or Lithuania but too much expensive as final cost here in Italy (a difference between 150 and 300 Euros).
Alfie, i know that the argoument is fully treated but i have one question for you, do you think i can avoid the can bus simulator simply bridging A1 and C2 (Gal pins) ?
At the moment, with the can bus simulator, the A1 Gal pin is emply (on the comand) and only in C2 there is the pin6 connected.

I dont think you can eliminate the CANBUS simulator as your comand will be expecting to see signals on the canbus, such as switch on/off with ignition, plus lights coming on etc.

I'm afraid i haven't buy a unit from you, i was not aware about your knowledge an professionality.
The seller from Germany is ok but the support normally is "give me back i will control" and it takes time and money.
It is true that the comand2 is not a simple unit.
Now i'm in trouble trying to update the MY01 (the one from geocities).
I have do with the best cd i have (TDK) but it stop after the screen "checking cd".
It says the previous update is 1999.
It is strange cause i went last week to a Mercedes dealer and he use the star diagnostic to unlock the TV and update the unit.
I have decided to update cause using the service menu (the one pressing mute 1 and 3) in the info's menu it doesn't appear the satellite numbers and the speed pulse information.
Any suggestion ?
Perhaps i have to unplug the can-bus simulator as Mercedes did to use the star diagnostic (otherwise they were unable to detect the unit).

Disconnect everything except the A connector which has the power in it. If you've burnt your Cd properly (as an ISO image) then it should update no problem. It takes about 40 minutes. do not turn the unit off whilst its updating!

I was thinking of updating the firmware too - my 10/1999 w210 has a factory fitted COMAND.

It takes 40 minutes? Seems like a long time for a firmware update...

Are there any on-screen messages during the update? What does it display when it finishes?

Yes. The screen displays the progress of the update. The update is split into two parts, the navigation unit first then the display unit. During the display unit part it tells you not to turn off the comand as well as the progress.

When finished it tells you its finished, it asks you to insert the navigation Cd.

Hi, I had trouble with updating my Comand 2 and needed to follow the posted instructions (sorry I can't give credit to the post) ie
1. Switch off ignition and withdraw ign key
2. Switch Comand with ON switch and wait about 10s until operating unit is correctly switched off
3. Press keys * and # at the same time and hold and switch on unit with ON switch. Wait until download screen is displayed then release keys.
4. Insert CD if ejected insert again.
5. Start download by selecting with start operating rotary knob and press rotary knob.
About 45 mins later confirm final message with OK, remove CD and insert NAVI map CD and switch unit off and on with ON switch.
The orignal post also had instructions how to overwrite same version and if necessary, stop ICAN activity. If necessary I am sure I could look the instructions out. The post also suggested pulling the fuse for a while and trying again if the above does not work.
