Comand reception problems?

I have recently fitted a comand unit to my W210 estate. Originally I had an audio 10 cd unit and it had much better radio reception.
I have taken the aerial (DIN) plug apart and resoldered it, but this made no difference.
I have checked the connections to the amp for the rear quater window aerial and all are fine including the earth.
I have even fitted a amplified hirschmann bee-sting whip aerial to the roof and this still did not improve reception.

The only variable left is that the comand is not as good at receiving radio as the old alpine audio 10cd. Could the comand be faulty....I have checked the connection plug in the comand and it all looks fine.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Adam

My comand is the same.

The audio 10, then the APS30, that I have had fitted previously had much better radio reception.

Sorry I dont know of a fix.

If anyone can... Alfie can, :) :) but it is his business.

Worth trying to replace the aerial plug itself that goes into the back of the head-unit . . . cured the problems that I was having with radio reception after I fitted COMAND . . . they seem to develop a bit of a weakness when removed / re-inserted for some reason.

I see you have already tried repairing it ... but worth trying a brand new one.

Many thanks for the replies.

I'm sure it is not the plug as the new bee-sting whip antenna had a new plug on it and it gave exactly the same reception issues.

It may be the male? plug that is soldered to the comand that is the problem. I have taken the cover off the bottom section of the unit and the solder pads look fine where the aerial plug enters. Also I put a small blob of solder on the inner pin of the plug to ensure a good "bite".

On the side of the unit are two, what look like trimming resistors/capacitors that could be adjusted with a instrument screwdriver. I didn't want to mess with them as I have no idea what they do.

Thanks

Adam

You've fitted comand SYM?

You can try this;

Remove the comand. Remove the fuse at the rear of the comand. Leave it for 10 minutes, re-insert the fuse and replace the comand. If this doesnt work then you most likely have a faulty comand. I've seen a couple of COMAND 2's that had very poor or no radio reception at all!

I have Comand in a MY2000 W210, but have dreadful AM radio reception. FM is perfectly fine - is AM reception a known problem with these?
