CL500 and ML320
Hi Guys, I'm new to this forum. Great informative site, Help please, I've just purchased a CL500 9/2000. The Comand unit with not turn on in the morning. After driving it for about 20 mins, turn the car off and then back on, push the On button on the comand and after a short pause the screen comes on displaying the Mercedes logo and fuctions normally for the rest of the day including a ten hour rest while I'm working and then the drive home. Then the next morning it's dead and have to go through the same process. I'm hoping its a power supply problem and not the head unit. The On button is not illuminated in the morning if this gives a clue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreiciated.

Are you sure that the consumers are not switched off through slightly low battery voltage, this will turn the Comand off until the battery is back up to 12.5 volt

I was thinking on the same lines, Would you suggest I take it to an auto elecs.

No need to do that, just measure the battery voltage before you start the car in the morning,,if its down to 11v something that can do it.

If the battery is the original then it could be past its sell bye date.

The cars normally tell you when the consumers are switched off in the cluster

I haven't had that message in the cluster yet. But I will get hold of a volt meter and check the battery, Cheers Malcolm.

Sorry to sound thick...but am trying to learn..

What are consumers? do you mean things like the alarm that consume from the battery when the car is turned off?

Some cars like the 230,215,211 and 220 have a high battery consumption or loading and in say winter with the wipers, heater, seats on and the alternator cannot cope, so the battery voltage starts falling,,when it gets to an unsafe level at 11.75 v then things not essential to the running of the car are turned off. These thing are called the consumers as they are all switchable from within the cab and not essential to the running of the car. When the battery has recovered it will turn the things back on

Hope this helps a little

Replaced battery yesterday, Comand behaved itself until this morning. On first cold start this morning it would not turn on. So i drove down the road, after about a minute the cluster display changed from a small audio to a larged audio off and then the On button on the comand illuminated. Pushed it and it turned on.

Do I have to look further possilbly the alternator???

Regards,
