'Comedic' renewal pricing - Churchill

The Premium on my G wagen went down from £300 to £250 (classic policy with agreed value and Mods) last month.. and my SL55AMG went up £40 from £320 to £360 this month with A Plan, so on those two I'm ahead a tenner..
I'm happy.

I don’t agree, I was hit 20 years ago by that uninsured driver, doesn’t mean it’s going to happen again….there’s no logic behind that.

In probability maths it does. Like I said I'm not saying it's right, it's just how they do it.

Find another woman, and she’ll decrease your premium.

Tell your wife that the French do this kind of thing all the time.

Have you ANY idea how difficult it was to find a swinging partner?? 🤣

I had three on an Admiral multi-car and the price rocketed this year. I went to cancel and they bent over backwards to reduce the cost (with the same terms as before). Ended up actually being cheaper than 2022 for the two cars i kept with them. I moved the Alfa to LV and with all the declared mods and on a 3000 mile policy it was peanuts. I do get the impression that 2022-2023 the insurance companies (like many others) chanced their arm with increases.

This is normal insurance pricing. They discount to catch your business, then revert once you’re a repeat customer.

That practise became illegal over a year ago. existing customers must be offered the same price (on a like for like quote) as a new one.....which probably just means new customers will lose out!!

On the subject of woman on your policy. After my wife used her SLK to kill a deer I thought it a good idea to remover her from mine (she's never driven my current car anyway!).....nope.....even after her claim she's still statistically a lower risk than me ...so removing her will increase my premium by nearly £50!!!

£150 - if only! Last time I spoke to Churchill when trying to get a better price for our second car, I was told in no uncertain terms that the price I saw on a comparison site was the best I would get and they wouldn’t be doing anything else for me, so forgive me for not sharing your optimism 😁
You said you were looking at a £200 increase, I said a £50 increase would be feasible if negotiated. Negotiation isn’t filling in forms online.

Exactly.

And just because something is now illegal, that doesn’t mean that organisations aren’t still doing it. See other responses on here

Perhaps I spend too much time in France.
It’s very routine there.

Mine was within a few quid of the "new customer price" when I checked.....and it will always be slightly different......but if there was a big saving for a new customer then I'm sure that reminding them of their obligation under the law would get the required price adjustment.
Of course that does not mean you could not save BIG by simply going with a cheaper company.....

Not when looking at it individually, no. But statistics looks at correlations among many people.

And overall, there will be a correlation between the number of historic claims and the number of future claims. Again, across the insurer's entire client base.

That wasn’t online, that was a conversation with an actual human being (albeit a very rude one)….

However, as a great many of us are now doing less miles per year due to changed working practices, surely the risk to insurance companies is reduced to a certain degree?
You’d think so wouldn’t ya?

I’m guessing they’d play the

“if you’re only doing 5k miles PA then your driving will be a bit ‘rusty’ so you’re more likely to crash’!!! Card

😤

My policy renews on 1st August. Renewal quote was £806

Haven't renewed yet - too early.

So I got on the line with their agent this afternoon, after this conversation.

Is this the best you can do? I need to know so that I can compare to direct line etc because it's gone up so much.

Two vehicles: E500 5.5 and Mx5 in London. (My BMW's gone)

Result: 23.5% off: £616

My premium went down with the mileage. I found that by declaring the minimum mileage I needed I reduced the premium significantly.

Change in circumstances (even before COVID) meant my declared annual mileage went down from 10000 to 4000. I don't actually do 4000, but the insurer said that any reduction below 4000 won't affect the premium, so that's what I declared.

Just had the renewal through for my C63S from Churchill this morning - frankly its worthy of an Oscar for comedy.

My premium has gone up a full £202 to £808 for the year.....thats for a 46 year old, 12,000 miles a year, car parked on the drive, with a £900 combined excess and 1 additional driver. No convictions and no claims etc etc... Also, we have another car insured with them, so I feel they are really taking the Micheal here....

Is it just me or have prices risen at a mad rate this year? Worse still, a quick check on compare the market shows that Churchill are the cheapest anyway at £770 for 'new' customers!

*Sigh* Yet another waste of my time whilst I threaten to leave them and they offer me a few crumbs/quid off and spin me the old 'prices have risen across the board' etc etc....
Try all the other comparison sites as well as Compare the Market. You may be surprised by the variations in price for the same insurer.
In you position I'd also follow daveenty (Post#4) in seeing what A Plan can do for you.

What's the flip-side? What if you exceeded the declared mileage? I guess unless one had to make a claim, nothing, so why not simply declare the lowest value that reduces the premium? A risk worth taking?

Or the
"You have to have insurance by law so that gives us carte blanche to take the proverbial" card
🤬🤬

Mrs S would describe them as ****ing chancers.
And she'd be right (as usual😁)

You're overthinking this.... :) If you reach the mileage limit before the next policy renewal date, you simply phone them up, give them the new anticipated annual mileage, and pay the difference in the premium. That's how they described it to me anyway, I never actually needed to do that because so far each year I was way below the 4,000 miles limit.

Now, now !
SWMBO is always right. The clue is in her title. We're just acolytes.
It's a calculated strategy by the Insurers.
Mrs Spiky is always right because, bless her, she really is always right! Dunno how she does it🤔
