'Comedic' renewal pricing - Churchill

Hi ,

Well it's a supply and demand sale.

At present we are snapping up highly increased premiums but what would the insurance companies do if we all said no thank you !

Do today's premiums pay for yesterday's claim.

I would not be surprised that many house holds will give up the car to be able to put food on the table.

I have stated before that I believe the motor insurance sector happily puts out stories about premiums going up on an ongoing basis.

It sets the renewal pricing expectations for customers. Motor insurance is a bit different from other forms of financial product sold to consumers as it is mandatory.

Mrs S had her renewal come through a couple of days ago from the provider she has used for the last 5 years, complete with a rather condescending explanation as to why it had gone up 30%. Basically "take it or leave it".
Half an hour on MoneySupermarket yielded 58 alternative quotes which offered the same or better cover at a saving of at least £50 or in many instances much, much more.
Whilst I understand the obvious reasons that premiums have gone up, I also have a feeling that the insurance industry is still in a huff over being told to stop offering new clients a better deal.

The cynical in me says the insurers will now be looking at the aftermath of the Luton airport fire and thinking * thank God we didn't have the range rover driver as a customer!"
Wonder what the final bill will be?

Ps why, when all the people who get caught without insurance get fined is the fine less than the cost of insurance? No insurance should be a stonking great fine to encourage people to have insurance. (at least plod seizes the cars these days)

There are many reasons for households to give up their 2nd or even first car, while the young are learning to drive many years later than they used to.

The average age of people starting to drive has now reached an unbelievable 26. That's a full six years later than it was back in 2010
Average age to start driving increases to 26

"Times is 'ard" but somehow the Airports have still had a record summer. Are people "not putting food onto the table" in order to go to Spain?
Heathrow increases passenger forecasts after busy summer

One in four 11 year olds is obese. One in Four ! There are many reasons why people should be avoiding "putting food on the table" in 2023

15 yrs NCB not bad to say I insured the pair for £530 + the SLK55 AMG with 0 NCB for £300 all with SAGA 🙂

I can't remember exactly what year this was, but it was worst winter since 2006. In March I got renewal quote...It could be Churchill as well. I paid about £400 for A3 56'reg previously. New quote however said....£980. No claims, no convictions.... I laughed when lady on the phone said to me why it was so high (more than twice)....her words " I do apologise, however this winter was hard for us. We had to pay so many claims. And that is why your insurance has gone up."........Me: please could you transfer me to the cancellation department, end of story. :D

Much better! Was the SLK with mirrored NCB or zero NCB?

Just their, none to subtle, way of saying they don't want to insure your easily stolen RR anymore. Several companies no longer quote for RR inside the M25....or do silly numbers like your quote.

I wouldn't mind but im nowhere near the M25 🤣
