Mercedes Norwich want £ 3200 to fix all the things on my C43. Gulp...
Took it in for a B service and to track down a water leak...

Also due:-

-coolant change (will do this myself)

-brake fluid change (ditto)

-spark plug change (ditto) - my price £ 3.58 per plug for the same bosch part that MB want £ 7.45 for.

- rear brake hoses perished (done at same time as brake fluid change)

- front wheel bearings need tightneing up (taper roller bearings so can tweak them slightly)

-water leak is from radiator, but I bought a brand new MB C43 rad on Ebay last year just in case for £ 30 plus postage

- a/c compressor leaking. No gas.

- front brake discs slightly corroded. Have an on-car brake lathe so can machine them if required.

Anyone breaking a C43?

Give Ollie at Prestige a phone. You will be be pleasantly surprised.
Its fair old trek from Norwich, but not impossible by any means.

I'm a hands on sort of chap so I can do much of this myself. Access to full workshop facilities at work.

Job one is the radiator swap, and with luck I can do this, the plugs, coolant and wheel bearings on Friday, then do brake discs and fluid change over the weekend.

ok so what exactly are you asking for if you have all the equipment to do the work?

A good question

Having all the equipment is one thing, but experience counts for somethings as well. Asking a question before hand rather than plunge in with spanner and screwdriver can save a lot of time.

If someone came back and said - i did it this way and wished i hadn't and should have done it that way, then I could take advice and save myself a bit of time.

Perhaps Andrew could take pics and post a series of How To's, they are always useful.

From what you have said and the list you've made I don't think you'll have any problems :)

Are you certain of the diagnosis re: the air con? I'd also check the condensor (which sits just in front of the radiator, behind two electric cooling fans), they're a common weak spot, they rot with the debris that collects behind the fans and let the gas out ;)

If the discs are worn beyond the limit, I think new ones are pretty expensive compared to the usual W202 ones.

Good luck and pictures / advice would also be good when you do this work for future reference of others too ;)

Will

As others I didn't read the post as 'any advice or help on XXXXX items....'

xxxxx being the jobs you intend to do.

Good luck with the jobs at least there is one thing, YOU will know its been done if you do it yourself :)
