Hi ALL,

I have 02 CLK with factory fitted DX sat nav. has been working fine up till now. It now seems to have lost its GPS signal and is giving a completely faulty location when I press the MAP function. When I try and program in a destination it starts directing me from where it thinks the Car is, nowhere near the true location of the vehicle.

In map mode I have noticed in the top right hand corner it now says SAT 00. where as previously used to give me coordinates of some sort.

Can anyone help, am hoping there is a way to reset the system back to the previous setting. :dk:

Many thanks

The antenna is almost certainly the cause of this. I suggest you get it replaced. If you are near to Woking I can test it and show you how to fix it.

Hi Alfie,
not too far from woking, I have send you an email with my contact details,

And I have sent you a reply.

These antennas often become faulty. I suspect it is due to ingress of water or temperature extremes. In my experience 99% of these type of problems are antennas.

Hi Alfie,

The reason why I ask is that I am on my second antenna now in only 2 yrs and I have put it down to the cold because my command is a retrofit and the antenna is a magnetic flat one stuck on the rear parcel shelf which is exposed to the cold big time! Winter is a nightmare for satellite reception and this current one now must be on its way out again because in the morning I have no satellites but when it all warms up it goes to 7-8-9... Just like the last one did!

Alfie, do you have any recommendations on where to alternately place the antenna in my case and possible what good quality ones would prove better and more lasting than the ones I got from ebay? Yes, ebay!!

Cheers....

Andy.

Yes. If its a magnetic one then its not a genuine MB one. Get a genuine one. they cost just over £100 though! I would install it under the dashboard behind the instrument cluster.

Cheers Alfie,

Just one question thou. Would the antenna work efficiently enough being under the dash? I thought it would need line of sight to the satellite signals?

Cheers.

I know you asked Alfie the question but yes it would work fine under the dash.
I'm sure Alfie will confirm this when he's on line.

Alex.

Yes as speedybiker has said.

The satellite signal will travel through just about anything except metal so under a plastic dash looking up through glass is fine.

if your near to me (bromley) I can let you try the gps that came with my new system to prove whats at fault. I also have a comand2 sitting around with a duff amp but good enough to test your setup

Andy.

I am using the original gps with my new system, and more often than not, I get 9 or 10 sats.

Thanks for all the info fella's.. I will look into getting an original antenna to put under the dash... Anyone have one up for sale? Or anyone know where I can get a reasonably priced one without going to a stealer or fleabay?

Cheers in advance.... :thumb:

Thanks for the post Diesel Benz. Looking at this site, the original MB antennas are a wee bit pricey for me. I think as much as a stealer would charge? The cheaper one at £40 is similar to the one I'm using now which I picked up for £15.. Buying that wouldn't solve my problem I think? I will hunt around the scrappers and flebay me thinks. Thanks anyhow.

It would be handy thou to have the correct MB part no for the original antenna for my pre-facelift W203 with command 2 DX... :) Any takers with that one? :thumb:
