Hi Everyone,
New member just joined, only discovered the forum tonight. I have had a 2001 ML 430 AMG for nearly 2 years and love it and whilst the Command centre continues to work for Radio, CD etc as do some functions on Sat Nav it will not work out routes to destinations. When you dial in an address as you pick a road/street name from list that comes up it goes back to the beginning of the process back to the start menu everytime. The same occurs if you choose the town centre option or an address from the memory. I also noticed that a number of my stored destinations have disappeared from memory. Before I spend fortunes not double with MB has anyone out there got any clues please? Tim S

Hi Tim, and welcome :)

Not got a clue, actually, BUT I do recall the only time I had problems [though not exactly like yours] what solved them was taking the Nav disc out, turning the engine off, leaving it off while I cleaned the disc.

Powered up, tried to use the Nav function, got the 'No disc' message; put the disc in and it worked fine ever after.

Still, you probably tried that already, so I hope one of our more technically knowledgable members will offer some useful advice soon.

You could also try using the search function to see if anyone else has posted about the problem.

Good luck, enjoy the forum :)

PS: You may also find that one of our Mods moves your message to Electronics section by the way.

Hi Tim, in regard to your SAT NAV problems have you had your system software upgraded to accept the latest discs. Also you don't state what year disc you have so if you want me to help please reply with as much info as possible and I will guide you as best I can.

Hi Guy and Bryan,
Thank you both for taking the time to reply. First of all Guy just tried you suggestion and sadly it didn't work, thank you for the idead though. Small world isn't it I live in Sale not far from you if you're in Manchester. Notice you have a Quattroporte - very nice. A friend of mine takes delivery of the brand new Coupe in a few weeks.

BRYAN - Thanks for taking the time to respond. The problem started last week when I had the original disc in that came with the car the 2001 DX that had worked absolutely fine since I got the car. Whilst having a repair to my Bluetooth kit the other day I asked the engineer to have a look at the same time (wasn't MB) he said it was a software problem not hardware and suggested I bought the latest CD 2007/08 DX. I did this and popped the CD in which works fine for the maps etc and finds the street names/towns, shows location on map no problem, it's just when you press/hold in the button to get directions or pick a destination from memory it just won't work out the directions for me. All it does is go back to the first page again which is the start of the process.
Very strange, can't understand it. Does this help?

Does a mercedes logo appear when you turn it on and does it say DX?

keep button depressed untill it bleeps to work out route..might be trying to tune into tmc (classic am)

Hi, Thanks for response. Tried but still doesn't work. Basically when you hold the button in it doesn't bleep like it should it just goes back to the Destination Entry page - no bleep. When you enter a town and hold the button down when you select the town from the drop list it beeps then but if you choose Centre or enter a street name and choose from list - no bleep and back to the beginning. Very Strange beginning to think it's a job for MB. Any other suggestions would be welcomed please. Cheers Tim

Hi Hugh,

The problem first happened when I had the oringal 2001 DX Disc in and has continued since I purchased the new 2007/08 Disc. The disc is a brand new original disc and the 2001 disc worked fine for almost 2 years until last week when this problem first surfaced. I was then advised to buy the new disc and that works in exactly the same way as the other one.

Tim

I think this could be a symptom of the notorious faulty/dirty cd-head/eye.

Hi Shude

Is that an expensive one to fix then or is it simply buy a head cleaner?

Tim

Try a head clenaer through the unit a few times. It fixes many a reading problem.

Hi Alfie,

Bought a CD header cleaner yesterday and tried it last night but unfortunately it didn't work. Back to square one. Thank you for the suggestion though.

Kind regards, TIM
