Command Unit After (stupidly) Jump Starting

I bought a radio in the US and use it at home. It picks up all the FM stations in the UK, just not the US ones as they are too far away to pick up. So, I reckon the frequencies are the same.

Russ

Frequency spacing is different in the US. You will get some stations that fall on the same boundaries but there will be some you cant get or can only get to within 0.5 hz of.

Well the battery is dead again- after a new auxillary, and main; and after telling Mercedes to test, and test again.

NO! MB cars should never be jumpstarted!! big scary things can happen (as we have seen here!)

Hi, My battery was completely dead on my SL so phoned the AA and guy came around and started it with a booster pack, he said to keep the engine running and buy a new battery which I did, so no problems with any of the electrics. So are you supposed to jump start mercs or not.

its possible to do so safely if done correctly and very carfully, leads and conections are in good condition and connected in the correct order with correct proceedure followed to the T.
But, the margin for error and risk of damage by surge or spike is such that in my experiance its not recommended and best avoided if at all possible!

Modern cars should jump-started only from a fully charged car battery that is not fitted to a vehicle.

This method is 100% safe and will prevent potential damage to the electric system on either car from surges and spikes.

And this also is what the MB owners manual says.

If you do jump-start your vehicle from another vehicle, 9 out of 10 nothing bad will happen. But if you happen to be the unlucky number 10...

Well, it turns out, it was my faulty / damaged command that was completely draining the battery. My problems all started when it kept turning itself on at night, so I suppose I should have known that would be where the problem was.

At least it gives me assurance that it was probably going to go bang regardless of whether I jump started or not.

Thanks for the feedback. Hope you get your Comand swopped soon.

And no RDS - they use a different system.

Is it worth getting a Comand fixed? Or should I just buy a second hand one? Where could I pick one up for a reasonable price, any ideas guys?

I´ve seen them going for between 250- 300. What´s the next best brand to Harman Becker?

Where are you based ?

That would be great Alfie. I´m very close to Mijas.

I would prefer to know the problem before buying a new one. I´ll send you my details.
