One thing that does bother me with some of the newer setups is that while they get lighting into the areas at the side they also can have quite sharp cutoffs which increases contrast between lit and unlit areas.

This is not the case with the W212 ILS (at least on my pre-facelift car).

The reason that ILS is so much better than a normal Bi-Xenon setup is that when used in the Main Beam Assist mode, the light throw is completely dependent upon the proximity of other vehicles, whether they be oncoming or one you're following. This means that when following another vehicle that is some way in front, the lights adjust to a position whereby the road ahead is illuminated almost up to the rear of the vehicle ahead. This is far further than would be the case for a Bi-Xenon setup on dip beam.

I have the surround cameras, boot box and dynamic vented seats on my E63.

I think they are all nice options, the most useful being the boot box, for things such as takeaway food it's very good, it keeps things upright and still(ish) and means I don't have to put it in the cabin and the car smelling like a restaurant!

The surround cameras are very good when negotiating tight spaces to avoid curbing the wheels, or using the front camera to see where you are in a parking bay, I could survive with just the rear camera though.

Dynamic seats add to the sporty element of the car and the massage is adequate, doesn't suit all people though, my father has a bad back and the massage makes it worse for him! I probably would spec them again just for the novelty factor.

I don't have the driver assistance pack, I was advised against it by the dealer due to my low motorway miles but would be something I add in future.

The LED lights are very nice and light up the road well, seem better than the adaptive xenons on my BMW.

In the flesh it's quite a long way from Cavansite, We saw a Cavansite car in MBworld last weekend and actually thought it was black until we were stood right next to it.

cavansite is very close to tanzanite, but noticeably different from DBM. when clean, DBM is not as dark and more 'electric'. DBM has been around decades and still rocks :bannana:

I went for nappa leather as I had it before and it lifts the interior, although porcelain can get a little dirty with young children...

apply some G Techniq L1 -- used it on my porcelain interior, and dirt wipes off easily with plain baby wipes

In the flesh it's quite a long way from Cavansite, We saw a Cavansite car in MBworld last weekend and actually thought it was black until we were stood right next to it.

The representations on the MB configurator are quite a long way off, particularly the blues.

I've seen three Cavansite cars this morning and a few others around. I definitely prefer it to black, much more classy and sophisticated.

I know Seans is Mystic Blue, but in that light it's not that far off.

I'd definitely recommend the HK sound system. It sounds great!
I'm really gutted that I didn't get the ILS as although my car looks ok with the standard lights the ILS just look great finish the car off.
I originally wanted Tenorite Grey but I'm so pleased I went for Palladium Silver as it goes brilliantly with the black Nappa leather and the 19" alloys. It just looks great, but would look even better with the ILS!!!

Thanks for the tips. Did you listen to cars with and without HK (admittedly I've not done this)?

With regards to the LED lights - I wasn't that impressed with ILS - but that's based on a few youtube videos where I struggle to see it offering much benefit. Again, the dealer wasn't helpful in describing it or showing it to me in the flesh as it were.

Regarding ILS, night driving on any road its so much clearer compering to standard lights.
If I had a choice of just one 'must have' feature, it would be this one without any hesitation.

It might be the overall quietness in the car that makes that difference.

E class seems much more refined and quiet, plus it has V6 engine, so it doesn't struggle as such.

C class has a 4 pot which grunts and rattles most of a time, plus the outside noise does seem to be much more intense at any speed.

Cant think of any other reason(s) as to why would they perform differently.

Do you find the four cylinder somewhat intrusive compared to the six? What about economy?

I suppose the back ads cabin space in the estate, but coupe doesn't feel small at all when you sat inside of it.

Another difference I just thought of is the pan roof on the estate which somehow probably allows more outside noise than solid roof.

I never actually bothered, but might do a little experiment. Since I have a noise meter, check the noise level in both, same distance, same speed, same journey. It will be interesting to see whether there is actually a difference or I am simply dreaming it off.

I am not sure how accurate my economy is, due to both cars being used in a complete different manner.
Wife has a coupe, short journeys, school run, local shopping, start and stop most of it, car will do about 33-35 on average.

I use the estate, lots of long motorway runs, as much as lots M25 and London itself. My car has averaged about 47, which I admit is lot better than a coupe, but not as good as I hoped it will be.

I had a c class estate as a loan car whilst my e class estate was in for service.

Same engine in both (220CDi). the c class was obviously much quicker, but the E class feels much smoother and much quieter.

I have to say, the c class felt really small in comparison. I also think the build quality is not as good as the e, it feel,......... I hate to use the word "cheaper" here, as neither is cheap, but it felt less expensive the the c shall we say.

Still a really nice car, but I was glad to get mine back!

Mrs Dm sat in a new C today and said the interior looked and felt cheap, which was in sharp contrast to the new A she sat in, it was classy.

I can't say I even find the W212 E class particularly special inside.

That's not good - I got 30mph over 50 miles @ 60mph from my 63.

My 2008 320CDI (with DPF) would average 40+ at around 70/80mph.

I think the cruise is malfunctioning. You set it at 70mph, but only managed 34mph

I thought I was doing great having reset the trip meter it when out of town with a warm engine...48mpg...happy as a pig in...until I turned round and faced the wind.
The instantaneous gauge was down to 20+ going up inclines and the overall average just fell away, ending up at less than 35mpg round trip.
